Those were the days (The original Russian song) - Дорогой длинною

"Those Were the Days" is a song credited to Gene Raskin, who put English lyrics to the Russian song "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" ("Дорогой длинною", lit. "By the long road"), written by Boris Fomin (1900--1948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. It deals with reminiscence upon youth and romantic idealism. The Georgian Tamara Tsereteli (1900--1968) in 1925 and Alexander Vertinsky in 1926 made what were probably the earliest recordings of the song. However, it is best remembered for Mary Hopkin's 1968 recording, which was a top-ten hit in both the US and the UK On most records of the song, Gene Raskin is credited as the writer of the song, even though he just wrote the English lyrics and not the melody.

"Миленький ты мой" текст слова Russian song lyrics

Russian language students, here is a folk song that's slow with easy words. You'll be able to sing along easily. The images are very rare photos by Photographer to the Tsar, Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii. The photographs of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) offer a vivid portrait of a lost world--the Russian Empire on the eve of World War I and the coming revolution. His subjects ranged from the medieval churches and monasteries of old Russia, to the railroads and factories of an emerging industrial power, to the daily life and work of Russia's diverse population. In the early 1900s Prokudin-Gorskii formulated an ambitious plan for a photographic survey of the Russian Empire that won the support of Tsar Nicholas II. Between 1909-1912, and again in 1915, he completed surveys of eleven regions, traveling in a specially equipped railroad car provided by the Ministry of Transportation. Prokudin-Gorskii left Russia in 1918, going first to Norway and England before settling in France. By then, the tsar and his family had been murdered and the empire that Prokudin-Gorskii so carefully documented had been destroyed. His unique images of Russia on the eve of revolution--recorded on glass plates--were purchased by the Library of Congress in 1948 from his heirs. For this exhibition, the glass plates have been scanned and, through an innovative process known as digichromatography, brilliant color images have been produced. This exhibition features a sampling of ...

Old Russian song by a Polish singer: Paweł Prokopieni - Wieriowoczka, 1933

Wieriowoczka (Verovotschka) Russian folk song - Paweł Prokopieni, Syrena-Electro 1933 (Poland) NOTE: Paweł PROKOPIENI (ne Paweł Prokop) (b.1910 -- d. 1976) -- Polish opera singer (bass-baritone) whose life makes a Polish version of a story of shoe-shine-boy -- becoming- a millionaire. Born in a small village in Polesie (region of Volhynia, Poland) -- that was a "wild East" of prewar Poland - found himself in the age of 16, in the streets of Warsaw with only his attractive looks and Chaliapin-like bass-baritone. His first school were the night restaurants of Warsaw, frequented by Polish upper class and Russian white-emigrees. It's how he found his way to a private hearing by Jan Kiepura, who was then a rising star of Polish opera. Unfortunately, a youngster from a remote village, lacking any professional background or a serious backing had no chance to get from Kiepura anything more but a handshake and a few good wishes. He returned to his night-bar audience where, finally, he got his chance. Tadeusz Orda - another famous soloist of Warsaw Opera - got totally bewitched by his voice and arranged for Prokopieni a permanent job in the Opera choir, what enabled him to take two-year training in a private singing school of Ryszard Wraga. Old maestro immediately recognized a rare talent in front of him and recommended Prokopieni to prince A. Radziwill, who gave young singer funds for his continuing studies in Milan. Prokopieni did not disappoint his benefactor and after two more ...

"Lion of the Desert" (russian song about colonel Gaddafi) [english subtitles]

Dear brothers and sisters! Do not consider this song as "anti-US", "anti-Europe" or anything like that... We're all the ones who want to stop this insanity. This song is primarily against wars and its supporters... MP3_LINK: ifolder.ru Lyrics: Right above your head Crusaders' flags blackguardly waver The "Libiration Act" - And another snivels on the paper How much smoke and death To breathe deeply their "Smell of Freedom"? How much blood they will shed These holy fighters for the rights of people? How much "bliss" will come down from thousands meters? Ch.: And just let them face Their fancy fables about freedom Time will judge everybody who died on this place. You're one of the few who was struggling fiercely For the creed and the people were always your base Today - menial kissing of hands, Tomorrow - bombs and bullets. That's the idea it bears, That's the faith of these "honest" rulers And those who called themselves "true friends" just washed their hands of it.. what else? They are bowing their heads down - Knife in back! But you said you would defend your home and never lower the flag! Ch.: And just let them face Their fancy fables about freedom Time will judge everybody who died on this place. You're one of the few who was struggling fiercely For the creed and the people were always your base So, what's your next move? - Recap! Casatschok - Russian Song
