Parliament witnessed a bare-knuckle face-off between Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and his one-time close political ally, now turned - bitter rival, Eldoret North MP William Ruto. In the first such direct confrontation since the two acrimoniously fell out, Ruto took on Odinga for his consistent assertions that people who opposed the new constitution during the august 2010 referendum should not be elected into public office during the forthcoming general election. Ruto was the de-facto leader of the red team that opposed the then proposed draft constitution. The duo also treated the August House to a showdown over the ICC issue, after Odinga faulted the ongoing series of prayer rallies organised by Ruto and his co-accused, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta. The hearing is perhaps the most important stage in the ICC process as confirmation of charges could lead to the incarceration or termination of the historic case. The hearing for the first three suspects will go on for 12 days while that of the other three is expected to start later this month and run for 12 days as well.
