TORONTO - Rookie Jahmal Jones shined in his first regular season game wearing the blue and gold, scoring a game-high 24 points and leading the Rams to a 75-70 victory over the McMaster Marauders in front of an excited Kerr Hall Gym crowd on Friday night. Down most of the game, Ryerson took the lead with just over two minutes to go in the fourth thanks to a clutch three-pointer from another Rams rookie, Jelane Pryce. They would take that lead right down to the final buzzer, winning their home opener. The Rams scored 29 points off of McMaster's turnovers, and outscored the Marauders bench by 16 points down the stretch. McMaster grabbed the lead in the first quarter, going up by as much as 10 points. Kenan Etale was hot early, hitting a number of three-pointers to expand the Marauder lead. Jones then scored five straight points for his team as Ryerson fought their way back into the game before half-time, down only 37-35 at the break. The Marauders would hold their lead for much of the second half, and actually increased the advantage to seven early in the fourth. However, Jones would spur the Rams once again, hitting a crucial three-pointer to stop a McMaster streak. Ryerson would score five more unanswered points, bringing the deficit to one before Pryce put them in front. Kris Montaque and Pryce also came up with two blocks to keep the score close, and McMaster could only foul in the last minute and hope for Ryerson to struggle from the line. Jones and Montaque each hit ...

Head coach Roy Rana of the Ryerson University Rams is no stranger to winning, having won multiple OFSAA Sr. Boy's basketball championships at powerhouse Eastern Commerce. Now in his 2nd year at Ryerson, Rana is changing the mentality and demeanor of this program on step at a time. Rana is a very demanding coach that stresses fundamentals, discipline and "mental toughness", which separates good players/teams from great ones. Coming off an astounding summer in which he coached the Canadian Cadet U17 to a bronze medal performance, Rana will bring some of that winning pedigree to the Rams this season. I got a chance to take in an intense practice before the team left for Waterloo, Ontario for the Naismith Classic. Then spoke to the coach who's team is full of young but very coachable players. Joining me with coach Rana was Ryan McNeilly, a very mature and skillful 5th year senior who will be looked on as the leader of the squad. He averaged 11.8ppg last year but will have to step up and fill the void left by one of the greatest Rams player in history, Boris Bakovic, who graduated while scoring the most points in Rams history with 2068 points! The Edward L. Ryerson, is one of only two remaining straight-deck bulk carriers still part of the American fleet on the Great Lakes; the other being the John Sherwin (2). Built as hull # 425 by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co., Inc. of Manitowoc, WI; the keel for this bulk carrier was laid April 20, 1959. During the winter, the Edward L. Ryerson received a new coat of paint and, to match the new name of the company that charters the vessel, had the new stack markings of Arcelor Mittal applied. With Arcelor Mittal now the owners of Dofasco in Hamilton, ON, the Ryerson began the 2008 season on the new regular iron ore trade route from Superior, WI to Hamilton, ON. With the Arcelor Mittal (Dofasco) docks in Hamilton having regularly received iron ore shipments from Gulf of St. Lawrence ports in the holds of Canadian straight deck bulk carriers for many years, the docks there are well equipped to handle and experienced at unloading ore cargos from vessels not equipped with self-unloading equipment. The new trade route is a "perfect fit" for the Edward L. Ryerson.

A news piece created for a class at Ryerson University on young people who collect vinyl records instead of MP3s or CDs.

The 1837 series on the rebellion in Upper Canada continues because researching the Old World Order could help in dealing with the New World Order... In this segment recorded April 10th 2010 Danny Liberty took a break from the Toronto Truth Seeker street action at Yonge & Dundas and walked a few blocks to Gould & Bond street and spoke in front of the historic Egerton Ryerson statute on the campus of Ryerson University. Ryerson is noted in Canadian history as the founder of the school system of Ontario, as well as the notorious Indian Residential School system. During the time of the Upper Canada Rebellion, Ryerson stands out in the category of 'other' or 'reformist' because he was against the radical violent tactics of William Lyon MacKenzie and the rebels as well as against the tyrannical Family Compact who ruled over Upper Canada, contrasted with recent New World Order popular music and G20 Toronto psy-ops and tactics... LAND RIGHTS NOT MINING RIGHTS FREE ROBERT LOVELACE AND THE KI 6 DATE: Wednesday April 9th, 6 pm PLACE: Ryerson Students' Union, 55 Gould St (between Victoria and Church) INFO: www.ryerson.ca/socialjustice Featuring: Ovide Mercredi, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and members of the KI and Ardoch First Nations. In a travesty of justice and a grave assault on Aboriginal rights, seven Aboriginal leaders are in jail today for upholding indigenous and Canadian law. In March, Robert Lovelace from Ardoch and Chief Donny Morris of the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) community, four councillors and one community member were jailed for six months for contempt of court. In two separate cases, they refused mining exploration on their traditional lands without their permission. Additionally, Robert Lovelace and his community have been hit with huge fines. These Aboriginal leaders were not only protecting indigenous laws, they were also protecting the Canadian constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court of Canada, which says that governments must consult with Aboriginal Nations before licensing mining exploration on their lands. The KI Six arguments that the Ontario government has a constitutional responsibility to consult with them before issuing a mining permit in their traditional territories were rejected by the court. The judge in the Ardoch case threw out Robert Lovelace's testimony that he was defending Algonquin Law and responsibilities with ...

The Ryerson Rams men's volleyball team lost to the Queen's Gaels 3-0 (25-18, 30-28, 25-21) in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at Kerr Hall. Ryerson came out strong to start the game, leading the first set 8-6 at the first technical timeout. The lead was short lived, however Queen's went on an eight-point rally behind the serving of Joren Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont.) to take a 15-9 lead. The rest of the set went back and forth with the Gaels holding on for the seven point win. An exciting second set went to the 30th point as Queen's and Ryerson went back and forth the entire set. The Gaels had an early 14-9 lead until Ryerson rallied, and even held a 23-21 lead. After that, the two teams shared points until Queen's finally came out on top 30-28. The third set was dominated by Queen's early, with the Gaels leading 19-12 at one point. The Rams rallied late but it wasn't enough as Queen's held on for the four point victory in the set. Leading the way for the Rams was second-year left side David Marynowowicz (Hamilton, Ont.) with nine kills and 14 points including three serving aces. Greg McDonald (Thamesville, Ont.) had seven kills for the Rams and Oleh Kovalchuk (Toronto) added five kills. Jeff Demeza (Calgary) had a match-high 12 kills for Queen's. Niko Rukavina (Mississauga, Ont.) added nine kills and 12 points, while Zeeman finished with six kills and 12 points for the Gaels. Rams settle for draw against RMC TORONTO - The Ryerson Rams women's soccer team drew the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins 0-0 Saturday afternoon in a physical match at Allan Lamport Stadium. The draw, Ryerson's third on the season, keeps the team undefeated, although the Rams (0-0-3) find themselves winless as well. "It was a disappointment," said 2009 OUA all-star forward Calaigh Copland. "We were going for the three points. I'm quite upset with the result." The Rams controlled most of what turned out to be a very physical game, with the smaller Ryerson players getting involved with the noticeably bigger RMC (0-2-1) squad. "[They] were big, strong, and tough ... we had to play physical," said midfielder and three-time OUA all-star Andrea Raso, who was issued a yellow card. She added that while most of the experienced players knew what to expect, some of the rookies were caught off guard by RMC's style of play. While Raso received the only yellow card for Ryerson, both Samantha Beckett and Stephanie Bengle got yellow cards for the Paladins. Possession wise, the Rams had a relatively easy time getting the ball up the field, but came up short on their chances, the closest coming in the 18th minute when RMC full-back Lyndsay Cross saved a ball on the goal line. Interim head coach Ramin Mohammadi said he still thought his players played a good game, highlighting that his team was never in serious trouble, thanks to tight defending and a solid midfield effort.
