Ryker's Journey
This slideshow will take you through Ryker's birth, surgeries, and much more. He is our miracle baby :) Ryker was born 4 weeks early, and had a condition called Gastroschisis. This means his intestines were on the outside of his body. He had a lengthy stay in the NICU, only to be discharged and re-admitted after 13 days. The second time was for an infection in the intestines. He was again discharged, only for 16 days, to return not being able to breathe. He had a procedure called a "Crycoid Split" to open his airway. This was caused by all the intubation scar damage he received from prior surgeries.

Our little heart warrior was born October 27, 2007. Ryker underwent his first surgery on Halloween. He was truly a fighter, also undergoing stomach surgery at 3 weeks to repair a tear in his stomach that was causing massive bleeding. He was doing so well that on December 15, they extubated him, and for some reason that we do not fully understand, he passed from this world to be with his sister Lilly. Here is his story of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).
