Dum Cignus Ego Fueram - Salo Trailer
Pier Paolo Pasolini's film "Salo" got me into Orff's take on the "Carmina Burana", and before long I got to thinking how fitting "Olim Lacus Colueram" is for the content and themes of the film (as well as that of the book it was based upon, "The 120 Days of Sodom" by the Marquis de Sade). The countertenor perversion of the typical male vocal range seems to go well with Pasolini's images of dehumanization I think! And so I pieced this fan-trailer together in these wee hours of the morning. Enjoy!

Salo Critique: Part 1
Cynical Celluloid presents the most requested critique this channel has received. Salo, Pier Paulo Passolini's controversial classic tale of fascist repression with a twist is put under the microscope for this extended video. This is a complex film in many respects, the story itself is simple but the subtext is complex. I've chosen to focus on the commentary on capitalism/consumerism angle because it's the most relevant to my experience of the movie, I do not dismiss the fascism angle at all. I'm uploading this in a two part and censored fashion for a couple of reasons. Firstly because it's a more digestible length being two parts and secondly I don't want this flagged immediately because of the nature of the content. Of course there are no guarantees that someone will not flag this but at least I've made the effort. The second part will be up in the not too distant future. Please note, despite my extensive efforts to make this as YouTube friendly as possible the fact remains that this is a difficult and adult film and as such there is bound to be some material that may be beyond the pale for some. If you don't know about this film then please Google it and find out about it before watching this critique to make sure you can stomach the themes and plots points that will be talked about. Great Movie Themes 2: Salo or 120 Days Of Sodom by Ennio Morricone
This is the lovely theme from Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1975 masterpiece Salo or 120 Days Of Sodom. The theme plays over the main titles and at many key points throughout the film. The music was composed by Pasolini's usual collaborator, the great Italian master, Ennio Morricone. The film is a difficult watch but I recommend you should definitely seek out and watch this great film if you have the stomach for it.

There is no doubting the work capacity of Mikko Salo. Ever since his debut at the 2009 European Regional he has set the bar high. At the 2009 Games he commanded attention with amazing performances in back to back events that exposed an enormous bandwith of physical capacities. Again at the 2010 CrossFit Games, where he finished in 5th place, his performance was elite. However, there are still a handful of skill-based movements that put a cramp in the '09 champ's style when they are pulled from the hopper. The double-under is one such movement. During his decompression from the 2010 CrossFit Games, Mikko stayed in California and trained at CrossFit Santa Cruz.
