SAS hero, Andy MCNab against the BNP

Former SAS war hero, Andy McNab, explains how the reputation of the British Military is under attack. The BNP are cynically exploiting the reputation of Britains military to promote their nasty brand of racism, segregation and intolerance. It is a deliberate political strategy to exploit the good name of the British Armed Services and to manipulate public opinion. It is time we said enough. The Militarys image is not to be used for a political partys gain.

Mark Donaldson SAS Victoria Cross

Trooper Mark Donaldson, 29, joined an elite band of ten VC survivors for his selfless act during a two-hour battle with the Taleban on September 2 last year. At an awards ceremony in Canberra, Kevin Rudd, the Australian Prime Minister, said: Generations of schoolchildren will now know of the story of Trooper Mark Donaldson. It is a story of a hero, one which will be told in classrooms, workplaces and watering holes for many years to come. He and his comrades had been pinned down by a hail of machinegun fire and rocket-propelled grenades after a patrol of Australian, American and Afghan special forces was ambushed by the Taleban in Uruzgan province in southern Afghanistan. Several of his comrades were wounded in the attack, and to draw the fire away from them he broke cover, laying himself open to attack by the Taleban who were well dug in. The SAS trooper darted from cover to cover, firing as he went. This selfless act alone bought enough time for those wounded to be moved to relative safety, his citation reads. As the wounded were removed from the scene, Trooper Donaldson ran alongside, as there was no room for him in the armoured Humvee vehicles. When he spotted a severely wounded Afghan interpreter who had been left behind, he ran across 90 yards of open ground, grabbed the injured man and carried him to safety, under constant from the Taleban. During the withdrawal, the SAS trooper gave first aid to the wounded as he continued to fire on the Taleban. Of the dozen <b>...</b>

Special Air Service or SAS is a corps of the British Army constituted on 31 May 1950.[5] They are part of the United Kingdom Special Forces (UKSF) and have served as a model for the special forces of many other countries all over the world.[8][10] The SAS together with the Special Boat Service (SBS), Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR), and the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) form the UKSF under the command of the Director Special Forces. While the SAS traces its origins to 1941 and the Second World War, it was reformed as part of the Territorial Army in 1947, and named the 21st Battalion, SAS Regiment, (Artists Rifles). The Regular Army 22 SAS later gained fame and recognition worldwide after successfully assaulting the Iranian Embassy in London and rescuing hostages during the 1980 Iranian Embassy Siege, lifting the regiment from obscurity outside the military establishment.[11] The Special Air Service presently comprises 22 Special Air Service Regiment of the Regular Army, 21 Special Air Service Regiment and 23 Special Air Service Regiment from the Territorial Army. It is tasked with special operations in wartime, and primarily counter-terrorism in peacetime

The Special Air Service was a unit of the British Army during the Second World War, formed in July 1941 by David Stirling and originally called "L" Detachment, Special Air Service Brigade — the "L" designation and Air Service name being a tie-in to a British disinformation campaign, trying to deceive the Axis into thinking there was a paratrooper regiment with numerous units operating in the area (the real SAS would 'prove' to the Axis that the fake one existed).[1][12] It was conceived as a commando force to operate behind enemy lines in the North African Campaign[13] and initially consisted of five officers and 60 other ranks.[14] Its first mission, in November 1941, was a parachute drop in support of the Operation Crusader offensive.[12] Due to enemy resistance and adverse weather conditions, the mission was a disaster: 22 men, a third of the unit, were killed or captured.[15] Its second mission was a success: transported by the Long Range Desert Group, it attacked three airfields in Libya, destroying 60 aircraft without loss.[15] In September 1942 it was renamed 1st SAS, consisting at that time of four British squadrons, one Free French, one Greek, and the Folboat Section.[16] SAS patrol in North Africa In January 1943, Stirling was captured in Tunisia and Paddy Mayne replaced him as commander.[17] In April 1943, the 1st SAS was reorganised into the Special Raiding Squadron under Mayne's command and the Special Boat Squadron was placed under the command of George <b>...</b>

How to Use SAS - Lesson 2 - Creating Datasets on the Fly

Mike's SAS Tutorials Lesson 2 This video series is intended to help you learn how to program using SAS for your statistical needs. Lesson 2 introduces some basic data step programming to define variables and specify their values for data sets containing one or more observations. I also introduce two procedures: the PRINT procedure (PROC PRINT) to display the data contents in the OUTPUT window, and the CONTENTS procedure (PROC CONTENTS) to summarize the data set. Finally, I introduce the concept of libraries to show another method of inspecting the data set by physically opening it from the temporary WORK library. Helpful Notes: 1. PROC PRINT - displays the entire data set by observation in the OUTPUT window 2. PROC CONTENTS - summarizes the properties of a data set, including an alphabetic listing of the variables and a count of the number of observations. 3. The assignment operator ("=") directly specifies the value of a variable in the data step. 4. The INPUT statement defines one or more variables of our data set. 5. The CARDS statement specifies the values for each of the INPUT variables (in order). 6. It is a good rule of thumb to always pair the INPUT and CARDS statements together. 7. DON'T FORGET SEMI;COLONS! They end statements and without them, you will most certainly have errors arise. 8. If you have any errors, always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check the LOG first! 9. Creating datasets "on-the-fly" just means you're making a new dataset without bringing in the data from <b>...</b>

SAS - Selection and Training - Part 1/3

SAS - Selection and Training. Part 1 of 3. The SAS was a unit of the British Army during World War II formed in 1941. They are the elite unit for which all other units are based. In these videos you'll see a number of techniques which were used to judge a candidates mental strength and physical stamina. These may or may not be accurate. However, they act as an example or representation of the trials and tribulations that the candidates must undergo in order to obtain their winged dagger.

Iranian Embassy Siege in London - Intervention by SAS

On April 30th, 1980, six armed Iranian terrorists stormed the Iranian embassy in London, England - capturing 26 hostages inside. Responding ... all » to an ultimatum set by the terrorists to kill a hostage every thirty minutes if their demands were not met, British authorities called on the SAS to intervene. SAS Survival Secrets Sabre Sqn Pt 3

At the end of the war the British Government saw no further need for the force and disbanded it on 8 October 1945.[2] However, the following year it was decided there was a need for a long-term deep-penetration commando unit, and a new SAS regiment was to be raised as part of the Territorial Army.[23] Ultimately, the Artists Rifles, raised in 1860 and headquartered at Dukes Road, Euston, took on the SAS mantle as 21st SAS Regiment (V) on 1 January 1947.[3][23] man in British Army uniform, carrying a parachute helmet and wearing a beret, other men can just be seen in the dark background 21 SAS soldier after a night parachute drop exercise in Denmark, 1955 In 1950, a 21 SAS squadron was raised to fight in the Korean War. After three months of training in England, it was informed that the squadron would no longer be required in Korea and so it instead volunteered to fight in the Malayan Emergency.[24] Upon arrival in Malaya, it came under the command of Mike Calvert who was forming a new unit called the Malayan Scouts (SAS).[24] Calvert had already formed one squadron from 100 volunteers in the Far East, which became A Squadron — the 21 SAS squadron then became B Squadron; and after a recruitment visit to Rhodesia by Calvert, C Squadron was formed from 1000 Rhodesian volunteers.[25] The Rhodesians returned home after three years service and were replaced by a New Zealand squadron.[26] By this time, the need for a regular army SAS regiment had been recognised; 22 SAS Regiment <b>...</b>
