Say It Loud!
In the work Say It Loud!, artist Satch Hoyt piles five hundred books on the subject of the black Diaspora to create a literal platform for free speech and discussion. Omitting the word "black" from the chorus of the late James Brown's "Say It Loud! I'm Black and I'm Proud!," Hoyt invites viewers to climb the installation to a microphone and substitute a word of their choice. These recordings took place at the Museum during Target First Saturdays on October 6, and November 3, 2007. Satch Hoyt (b. United Kingdom 1957; works in United States). Say It Loud!, 2004. This is the 8th One-77 that I have now seen! The pearl white always looks stunning, although the brown interior is not entirely to my taste, nor are the black alloys but that does seem to be the way now. An interesting feature of this car is how all of the Aston Martin logos are in red rather than green, as are small touches like the paddle-shifters. The noise it made as it started up indoors was insane, let's just say it was loud. Then of course the noises you get from the 7.3l V12 are just glorious with nothing else to add. One of the things I was distracted by was the news coming from Tahrir Square last year. The Arab Spring was unlike anything I've seen in my lifetime. Beginning with a vegetable cart owner named Mohammed Bouazizi setting himself on fire in Tunisia to protest general unfair treatment, the Arab Spring spread like wildfire to Sudan and then to Egypt, as thousands of protestors occupied Tahrir Square to call for corrupt president Hosni Mubarak to step down. The first line that I wrote for my song Distractions was, "they say it ain't about the spoils of war, but turn around and tell you how much more the oil will cost."
