The Nation's top autocrossers have once again measured their driving skills at the highly competitive SCCA Solo National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. This year's event marked the 38th annual running of the world's biggest motorsports competition and it's 2nd year at Air Park in Lincoln. The four-day competition pushed the drivers' abilities, as well as their cars, to the limits. A combination of 1200 ambitious drivers, 71 distinct classes and over $750000 in contingency money made for one remarkable event! Most notable was a record-close margin of victory, 0.001-second, that was set on the final day of racing!

Highlights of the Touring 2 SCCA National at Lime Rock - August 1, 2009. The Mitsubishi EVO starts on the pole with Brian Kleeman in the 350Z (camera car) on the outside. David Brand in a Supercharged Lotus Elise chases from behind. Notice the motor in the 350Z starts dying by Lap 3. The race is stopped and ends under a red-flag when Ken Payson's Spec Miata hits the spun-out Lotus head on. David Brand was treated and released that same day; as of Monday, Ken remains in the hospital. A full recovery is expected, but thoughts and prayers nonetheless.

My '89 Acura Integra rolled over to 230000 miles exactly when I pulled up into the staging area right before my first pass. My thoughts? "My car has 230 thousand miles on it now. Let's go beat on it." You can't say that about many brands other then Honda, and I'm a DSM guy. [For the rare few that don't know, Honda owns Acura]. [I am dead serious, the car really did hit 230k then, total coincidence. Brings new meaning to the statement "Real life is stranger then fiction."] *ahem* Right, details. This is a video of my laps/runs/passes at: SCCA Autocross event in Verona, Virginia on 03-22-2009. For those not familiar: Sports Car Club of America [SCCA]: www.scca.com This event is in SCCA's "Blue Ridge Region" [BRR]: www.brr-scca.org I was in ST [Stock Touring] class. With the timeframe we had, everyone actually got 5 passes apiece - a generous number for this type of thing [at the Nationals, I'm told you only get 2 or 3] There was a LOT of pebbles and gravel on the track that day, and a LOT of people were having a hard time with it. The was a nice, large, convenient patch halfway around the wide, sweeping U-turn at the end of the big straightaway, the first time you get to the far end of the big section of the parking lot. You'll notice that twice my tail came out there, and I saw the same thing happen to several other people. Other then that, it was a fun course. The Cold Air Intake that was on the car when I bought it [which is also the only performance mod] unfortunately <b>...</b>

After competing in varying levels of competition throughout the year, the most talented autocrossers in the country took it to the next level at the 39th Annual SCCA Solo Nationals Championships. In its third consecutive year, Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, Nebraska played host to the single largest motorsports competition in the world. The four-day, precision-driving event saw more than 1100 competitors in 74 different classes battle to be crowned National Champion. The competition started shortly after a major rainstorm had dropped several inches of water on the massive site but after Tuesday things got hot and stayed hot with temperatures in the 90's. While few obtain individual glory, the sheer dynamics of the event are a large draw for many competitors. Every year something new contributes to the indescribable atmosphere -- this year just happened to be a wedding!
