Smith is often regarded as one of the greatest singers of her era, and along with Louis Armstrong, a major influence on subsequent jazz vocalists. n 1920, sales figures for "Crazy Blues," an Okeh Records recording by singer Mamie Smith (no relation) pointed to a new market. The recording industry had not directed its product to blacks, but the success of the record led to a search for female blues singers. Bessie Smith was signed by Columbia Records in 1923 and her first session for Columbia was February 15, 1923. In October of 2007 JAV Recordings recreated Easter Sunday Mass at Saint-Sulpice from the time Vierne and Widor. The Vierne Mass was sung by the Choeur d'Oratorio de Paris directed by Jean Sourisse, accompanied by Daniel Roth and Eric Leburn. All of the Propers was sung by the Choeur d'Oratorio de Paris directed by Thibaut Marlin, accompanied by Eric Leburn on the choir organ. Daniel Roth provided beautiful improvisations in a style of the early 20th century on the Gallery Organ and he and Eric Leburn joined in dialog improvisation on both organs in Saint-Sulpice at times. The soloists were: Edward Schaefer, priest; Hervé Lamy, deacon; Sébastien Amadieu, sub deacon. This video was recorded with separate microphones from those used to make the recording, but this gives a small idea of what happened on those 4 nights at Saint-Sulpice to make this landmark recording. On September 28, 2010 , the Airmen of Note will celebrate 60 years of service to the Air Force and to the music-loving public. Over the past half-century the Note has made literally thousands of appearances all over the world. They served the Air Force, performing for everyone from airmen stationed at remote airfields to the Commander-in-Chief at the White House. The public has also had many opportunities to hear one of the worlds finest big bands, in concert, on the radio and on television. Surprisingly, very little has been written about the Airmen of Note over the years. There are several reasons for this. In the early part of the bands existence, it operated almost entirely within the military sphere. At that time, the few civilian big band enthusiasts who knew of its existence referred to the Airmen of Note as one of the Air Forces best kept military secrets. Even since the band began appearing more frequently in public, the unavailability of commercial recordings has made it difficult for big band fans to sustain an interest in the band. Their DVR Recorder not only canceled the future shows scheduled to be recorded , the series recording feature confirms that the programs are scheduled, that it is set to record all shows in the future, yet none are scheduled when you look at any of the daily guides. It's simply impossible to record the Glenn Beck Program using the Comcast DVR's Series Recording feature. And, this strange incapcity is limited and exclusive to the Glenn Beck Program. And oh, what's really weird is that this started right at the beginning of a very important Neilsen Ratings Period. A hacker, a glitch, a weird coincidence? Makes you wonder.

The Merry-Go-Round had a recording contract with A&M Records when they disbanded in 1969. Rhodes recorded songs at A&M for a solo album to be entitled The American Dream, but A&M decided to not release it at the time. Rhodes then decided to go out on his own and bought equipment to make a recording studio in his parents' garage. Rhodes recorded his first album (Emitt Rhodes) in that home studio. He got a recording contract with ABC/Dunhill Records, who released his album, as well as the next two albums he recorded (Mirror and Farewell to Paradise). Rhodes got a $5000 advance for Emitt Rhodes, which he spent on recording equipment. His first album was a critical success -- Billboard called Rhodes "one of the finest artists on the music scene today" and later called his first album one of the "best albums of the decade". The album reached number 29 on the Billboard charts. The single "Fresh as a Daisy" reached number 54 on the pop chart. Meanwhile, shortly after Mirror was released in 1971 by Dunhill, A&M decided to release their old recordings of The American Dream, which confused record buyers. Mirror did reach the top 200 on Billboard's album chart. In 1973 Dunhill released Rhodes' final album, Farewell to Paradise. Rhodes wrote all of the songs on his albums. Air France Flight 447 was a scheduled airline flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June 2009, killing all 216 passengers and 12 aircrew. After a friend tutored him on the fundamentals of digital synthesis in Propellerhead's Reason, Christian started producing electronic dance music, conceptualizing an experimental "sub-break" project that lead him to delve further into the possibilities of sculpting electronic sounds designed for dancefloors and headphones. Andersen currently uses Ableton Live to produce under the XI moniker, and in our interview, he talks about his early days as a 17 year old DJ, having a strong conviction and confidence in ones creative vision, production methods from designing unique bass patches to using field recordings and creating a large sample bank which he utilizes for composing and recording.
