Tourist missing in Hong Kong: help find Ani Ashekian 3/7

START HERE: www.youtube.com On November 9, 2008, Ani Ashekian left Xian, China on a Dragon Airlines flight to Hong Kong. On November 10, Ani Ashekian was seen in Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui and also Causeway Bay. And then on November 11, Ani Ashekian disappeared without a trace. Tourists in Hong Kong simply don't vanish. Last year, more than 29 million visitors passed through Hong Kong's borders and this native to Canada was one of them. But according to the Immigration Department, there is no record of Ani ever having left Hong Kong. There have been no e-mails or phone calls to friends and family. There has been no activity on her bank accounts. There is no electronic or print paper trail. The pervasive digital traces we all generate in today's information driven society there are none for Ani Ashekian. Eight months have passed since anyone has last seen or heard from her. It's a mystery with many questions and few clues, and it's a mystery that has left family members and loved ones longing for information. How could a tourist simply disappear in Hong Kong one of the safest cities in the world?

Director Ann Hui (許鞍華) completes Tin Shui Wai diptych

www.scmp.com Following a spate of murders, suicides and coupled by unemployment, the isolated town of Tin Shui Wai in the northern New Territories has been dubbed as the "City of Sadness". This has been the background of director Ann Hui On-wah's most recent two films 'The Way We Are' and 'Night and Fog'. It was a surprising success for The Way We Are at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards and earned Hui the Best Director award. It also won Best Actress (Paw Hee-Ching), Screenplay (Lou Shiu-wa) and Best Supporting Actress (Chan Lai-wun). While Night and Fog is set to similar circumstances to its predecessor, it is not a sequel but rather a complementary follow-up to create a diptych of Tin Shui Wai. It stars Simon Yam Tat-wah (任達華) and mainland actress Zhang Jingchu (張靜初). In this video, film editor Clarence Tsui speaks to Hui prior to the Film Awards.

Putting the 'park' into parking (International Park(ing) Day)

www.scmp.com A group of university students have taken on a peculiar project called Park-in Process, where a parking spot is transformed into a temporary public park. It is intended to promote creativity, civic engagement as well as simply 'playing'. It stems from International Park(ing) Day where people from 100 cities turn parking spots into "human friendly" spaces for a day. The group brought astroturf, a tree, benches, food and board games and whiled their afternoon while curious onlookers walked by on one side, and frustrated drivers on the other. But after a few hours of 'parking' themselves on Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, police arrived on scene due to a complaint. What ensued between the police and students was a complex yet humorous debate about the use of public spaces. 一群大學生發起名為PARK(ing)的行動,將停車場臨時改造成公園,希望鼓勵大眾發揮創意和參與,並宣揚「玩樂」的真正趣味。 這個意念來自International Park(ing) Day。 For more information: www.parkingday.org
