Scottish independence: Salmond, Cameron loch horns over referendum
www.nma.tv Scottish First Minister and SNP leader Alex Salmond is at odds with UK Prime Minister David Cameron about a referendum over the independence of Scotland. Salmond wants to use his Scottish National Party's first ever majority in the Scottish Parliament to hold a vote on Scotland's future in 2014. Cameron has called for the vote to be held within the next 18 months. Salmond recently declared his intention to hold a referendum in the fall of 2014. That's when Tory austerity cuts are expected to hit Scotland hard, while Scottish national pride gets a boost from the Ryder Cup, Commonwealth Games and the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn, when the Scots under Robert Bruce scored a decisive victory over the English in the First War of Scottish Independence. Cameron, whose Conservative Party has only one Scottish MP in Westminster, is supported in his desire to hold a referendum before 2014 by Liberal Party leader Nick Clegg and Labour leader Ed Miliband. Westminster maintains that only the British Parliament has the legal power to hold a valid referendum on Scotland's future.

HRH Prince Charles had a go at reading the weather during a tour of BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay headquarters. He and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited the broadcaster as a part of their annual Holyrood Week. BBC newsreader Sally Magnusson handed over to Prince Charles, who read his version of Reporting Scotland's lunchtime weather. The prince, also known as the Duke of Rothesay, gave a sterling performance in front of the camera, even finding time to direct a quip or two in the direction of the scriptwriters.

iPhone has problems with Scottish accents
The iPhone 4s which launched with a flourish has hit a glitch in Scotland at least. Created in California, the phone has a much-heralded voice command technology which seems to have had a bit of trouble crossing the Atlantic. The voice recognition software has problems translating Scottish accents.

Scottish independence: The rule of the game-The Big Story-02-08-2012
www.presstv.com The relationship between Scotland and England has been strained for centuries but now it seems with a political party with a nationalist agenda in power in Scotland the push towards independence is a step closer to reality. With the prospect of an independent Scotland looming on the none-too-distant-horizon, British Prime Minister David Cameron has escalated an already tense situation by publicly stating there can be no referendum on Scotland's independence until Westminster decrees it. Cameron also wants to set the terms of any referendum including when it happens and what question is asked. Salmond says that's not the way it works. The SNP has a majority and have already said there will be a referendum on the issue in the second half of the Parliamentary term.
