The possibility I find exciting is you could turn the world's most invasive and degrading structure into the world's longest gallery of free speech and bad art..." - Banksy In 2004 the international court of justice declared the wall illegal and against international law and that all contruction should be stopped immediatley. The international court ruled -the construction and its associated regime was contrary to international law; -Israel was under obligation to cease construction and dismantle the wall; -Israel should compensate owners of land seized to construct the barrier and those harmed by the barrier; -all states are under obligation not to recognise the situation and ensure Israel's compliance with international law; -the UN should consider what further action to take. In the same year a United Nations general assembly resolution was passed demanding Israel comply with the world court and dismantle and compensate all Palestinians affected by the wall's construction. The resolution was passed with 150 to 6. Israel and the United States being among the states that voted against the resolution. Israel has yet to comply with any demands made by the UN, the world court, the intternational courst of justice or human rights watch.

Drawing a comparison to American civil rights fighters, Palestinian activists boarded Israeli settler buses in the West Bank. ==== On Tuesday six Palestinian activists boarded Israeli busses in an attempt to challenge the system of segregation in the West Bank. They were arrested at Hizmeh checkpoint, interrogated by Israel's internal intelligence agency, the Shabak, and released. In the West Bank, segregation is both visible with the separation wall, fence, and separate cities for Israelis and Palestinians and invisible with separate legal and security systems for the two peoples. The West Bank and the Gaza Strip have been under Israeli military occupation since 1967. The Freedom Riders: New Documentary Recounts Historic 1961 Effort to Challenge Segregated Bus System in the Deep South The International Civil Rights Center and Museum opens today in Greensboro, North Carolina at the site of the historic 1960 Woolworths sit-in. To mark the start of Black History Month, we turn to the story of another group of young people who were inspired by the success of the nonviolent strategy of the Greensboro sit-in. Starting in May of 1961, mixed groups of black and white students began taking interstate buses into the Deep South, risking their lives to challenge segregation. They called themselves the Freedom Riders. White mobs responded with violence. One bus was set on fire with the Freedom Riders. Numerous Freedom Riders were brutally beaten and hospitalized. We speak to Stanley Nelson, the director of the new documentary The Freedom Riders that premiered at Sundance last week. We also speak to two of the original Freedom Riders, Bernard Lafayette and Jim Zwerg.
