Further Initial Appearance (3rd Contempt Case) - Šešelj - 4 November 2011

Vojislav Šešelj, the leader of the Serb Radical Party currently standing trial at the Tribunal for alleged war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Vojvodina in Serbia between 1991 and 1994, is accused offailing to remove confidential information from his personal website in violation of orders of a Chamber. The confidential information published by Šešelj on his website includes four books authored by the Accused and five confidential filings submitted by him as part of his main trial and two previous trials for contempt of court. These books and filings reveal confidential information about a number of protected witnesses who testified in his main trial before the Tribunal for alleged war crimes. This is the third time that Šešelj has been charged with contempt of the Tribunal. The previous charges relate to two of the four books listed in the latest indictment. On 19 May 2010 the Appeals Chamber confirmed the Trial Chamber's finding that Šešelj was guilty of contempt for disclosing the personal details of protected witnesses in a book he authored and affirmed his sentence of 15 months' imprisonment. Šešelj was ordered to remove the book from his website. In February 2010 contempt proceedings were initiated against Šešelj for a second time for disclosing the personal details of protected witnesses in a book he authored and the Trial Chamber sentenced him to 18 months' imprisonment on 31 October 2011.

First Initial Appearance - Šešelj (part 1/4) - 26 February 2003

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) confirms that Vojislav Seselj was transferred to the Detention Unit on Monday 24 February 2003. An initial appearance hearing is being scheduled to enable the accused to enter a plea on the charges laid against him. The date of the hearing will be announced in due course. Vojislav Seselj was indicted on 14 February 2003 on eight counts of crimes against humanity and six counts of violations of the laws or customs of war for his alleged participation in a joint criminal enterprise. According to the indictment, the purpose of this alleged joint criminal enterprise was the permanent forcible removal, through the commission of crimes in violation of Articles 3 and 5 of the Statute of the Tribunal, of a majority of the Croat, Muslim and other non-Serb populations from approximately one-third of the territory of Croatia, large parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and from parts of Vojvodina, in the Republic of Serbia, in order to make these areas part of a new Serb-dominated state. The alleged joint criminal enterprise came into existence before 1 August 1991 and continued until at least December 1995. Seselj allegedly participated in it until September 1993 when he had a conflict with Slobodan Milosevic.
