The golfing world is mourning the loss of Seve Ballesteros, who has died after a long battle with cancer. The former world number one passed away surrounded by his family at his home in northern Spain. He was 54. Sky's Enda Brady reports.

MUIRFIELD, East Lothian, Scotland-Old Tom Morris 1891 Muirfield is simply one of the best courses in the world. The home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Muirfield is the first golf course to be designed in two concentric, opposing loops. The first 9 holes proceed clockwise along the outside edge while the back 9 run counter clockwise in the inner part. It works out that there are no three consecutive holes running in the same direction. The Club has hosted 15 Open Championships since 1892. Although the thick rough and cavernous bunkers, of which there are 151, can make it a very severe test. Henry Cotton called it cruelly fair. Tom Watson said there was not a weak hole on the course. Jack Nicklaus, was so taken with this links he named his golf complex in Ohio, Muirfield Village, after it.

Seve laid to rest in his home village of Pedrena
The funeral of golfing great Seve Ballesteros has taken place at the church of San Pedro in his home village of Pedrena in northern Spain. His ashes are to be scattered in the garden of his nearby house at a private ceremony. The five-times major winner died at home on Saturday at the age of 54. Ballesteros had a brain tumour diagnosed in 2008 and underwent a series of operations as surgeons fought to save his life. The region of Cantabria, where he lived, is to hold three days of official mourning. ... www.euronews.net
