www.ntv.co.ke It is now emerging the vast majority of the recruits in the Al-Shabaab are Kenyans from different tribes with only a handful from ethnic Somali communities, a day when two suspects were released after surrendering to the police following links to the militant group. Our reporter Jane Ngoiri spoke to a parent of the youth released who had been recruited by the Islamist group to fight in Somalia.

www.ntv.co.ke Two men arrested on Christmas Eve over alleged Al-Shabaab links have been released. The two who surrendered after their pictures were circulated in the media, were being interrogated by the anti-terror police unit but were on Tuesday morning freed without any charges being preferred against them. Sylvester Owino Opiyo and Hussein Nderitu Abbas have however been warned against engaging in activities that could be seen to harm the public. Police say they have been interrogating the duo for the last three days and have gained valuable information. The two are already facing other charges on related to being members of a terror group, they are both out on a Sh300,000 bond each. The police have also reported that they were holding six people suspected of trying to unleash attacks on Kenyans' during the ongoing Christmas festivities. Four suspects were arrested in Nairobi while two were other were taken by police in Mombasa.

This happened as Kenya's defense forces continued their advance in the south of Somalia, with yesterday's capture of the strategic coastal town of Ras Kiamboni.

Al-Shabaab sends assassins into Kenya


www.ntv.co.ke Defence Minister Yusuf Haji and Deputy Speaker Farah Maaalim have confirmed to parliament that the Somalia-based militant group Al-Shabaab is targeting them for assassination. Intelligence reports from the North Eastern provincial administration had warned in a recent communication that assassins had been sent to the country last week with orders to assassinate the two.

Kenya forces sink Al-Shabaab skiff,kill 18


Kenya Defence Forces say they have sunk a boat carrying 18 Al-Shabaab militants killing all its occupants. A statement issued this evening also warned against any aircraft landing in the town of Baidoa.The military says it will now treat any aircraft violating the space in which it is operation as a security threat. A brief statement from the department of defence stated that the helicopter was part of the ongoing mission to flash out Al Shabaab militants. But tonight, the government says it's not at war with Somalia but it's only helping her North Eastern neighbour to stabilize. Foreign affairs minister Moses Wetangula, who has returned from Mogadishu, said the ongoing operation is aimed at ensuring the security of not only Kenyans, but the people of Somalia. As Jane Kiyo reports, both Kenya and Somalia's transitional federal government, which has pledged its support for the operation, have agreed on a common strategy to wipe out the Al Shabaab militia.

Alert Issued Over Al Shabaab Threat


It is becoming clearer that the threat by Al Shabaab militia to strike Kenya in retaliation over its military incursion into Somalia, in pursuit of the terror gang, is all the more real. The government has beefed up security around defence minister Yusuf Haji and Deputy House Speaker Farah Maalim, following threats by Al Shabaab to assassinate the two Kenyan leaders. The two have since presented the details of the threats on their lives to the ministry of internal security. Permanent secretary Francis Kimemia is also assuring the country that intelligence and security officers have stepped up surveillance in areas likely to be targeted by the terror gang. Al Shabaab suspect pleads guilty to arms possession charges

Mogadishu residents rebuild after al-Shabaab departure


On October 11, African Union troops and soldiers from Somalia's Transitional Federal Government pushed Al-Shabaab rebels out of their last remaining stronghold in the Somali capital Mogadishu. Al Shabaab rocket attack misses Kenyan troops

Burundi, Uganda Back War On Al Shabaab


Kenya's military operation against the Al Shabaab militants inside Somalia got a major boost with both Uganda and Burundi formally endorsing the mission. Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni and Pierre Nkurunzizna of Burundi separately backed Kenya's pursuit of the militants, after receiving special messages from President Kibaki. Kenya, Somalia Deal On Al Shabaab


Kenya Government and Somalia Transitional Federal Government have agreed on a raft of measures to eliminate what they called common enemy in the name of Al Shabaab. Prime Minister, Raila Odinga met his Somalia counterpart Abdiweli Mohamed Ali in Nairobi and announced a joint offensive against the Al Shabaab. The meeting between the two leaders came in the wake of comments by Somalia TFG President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed that Kenyan forces were not welcome in his country. Odinga also dismissed as Al Shabaab propaganda claims that civilians were killed in air strikes by the Kenya Defence Forces in the Somalia town of Jilbi on Sunday in which 10 people were killed and about 47 others injured. And as Sheila Sendeyo reports, the TFG Govt. will also be inviting the International Criminal Court to initiate investigations into crimes against humanity committed by the Al Shabaab.

Govt. denies dialogue with Al Shabaab militants

The minister maintains that the government is committed in its assault against the group and was not in any way prepared to talk to them.
