Visit us: bit.ly The original Sharps rifle, patented in 1848 by Christian Sharps, was loaded with a linen cartridge and percussion primer. The sturdy action of Sharps rifles made them faster and easier to load than conventional muzzleloaders. In 1859, the US Navy placed the first military order for 900 of the single shot rifles. That same year, John Browns raiders carried Sharps carbines at Harpers Ferry. And when the Civil War began, carbine versions were ordered for the cavalry. After the war, the American Rifle Team used Sharps rifles, adapted to fire metallic cartridges, to win the first international long-range rifle match. In 1874, after 700 Comanche warriors attacked 30 buffalo hunters in the Texas panhandle, the hunters used their Sharps rifles to exact a punishing toll. By the early 1880s, the long-range models had become the favorites of professional buffalo hunters because of their long-range capability. Chambered in classic .45-70, all 1874 Sharps-replica Uberti rifles are true to the originals. Five rounds with an 1863 Sharps Civil War cavalry carbine
I just like playing with guns and cameras. In this one I was way too optimistic with myself in the time it took to fire the five rounds, but it was fun doing it anyway. The actual time was one minute and 19 seconds instead of the 40 seconds I had estimated. The rifle is an early Shiloh Sharps .54 caliber percussion cavalry carbine. I have the longer military rifle version as well, but this one is way cooler in some ways. If you saw the 1993 movie Gettysburg, you'll have seen Buford's Union cavalrymen firing these against Confederate infantry during the first day's fighting. Breech loaders like the Sharps, Smith, and Burnside carbines, and early repeaters like the Spencer and Henry made a huge difference on the battlefields of that day, since one man could fire as many as five times as many rounds in a given time as their Confederate adversaries. And for those who inquired about my dog's health after the silenced M76 video, as you can tell, and as I explain, Hannibal simply likes the sound of gunfire. Search me why, but he does.

After a concert fundraising for www.medair.org David Pitches introduced us to the various unequal temperaments in F Sharp major - one of the most remote musical keys with lots of sharps. It's unplayable in the old Meantone temperament and various modifications were made to retain the character of different keys whilst mollifying the worst excesses of Meantone. Some composers went into keys like this very deliberately for specific purposes.
