Shaving with the grain first is the way to go. Then, if you want, you can make a pass against the grain, but remember to follow that with yet another pass with the grain. Use a cup with a shallow level of water in it to swish your razor's blade around inside to clean it off. If you did exfoliate well and used soap (vs shave gel or cream), then you will notice that the razor does not get clogged. Follow up with a cool wet towel to clean your face and close the pores back. Rinse the towel out to make sure it does not get stained (if it's not black). Add a moisturizer if you have dry skin.
