In 1955, Stooge Shemp Howard (older brother of Moe and the late Jerry or "Curly") died of a heart attack. The Three Stooges still owed Columbia Pictures four shorts by the terms of their contract. Producer Jules White shot new footage of Moe and Larry and edited it together with bits recycled from previous shorts and stock footage (both of which included Shemp). When continuity required that Shemp appear in these new scenes, a body double (Joe Palma) stood in for him, appearing only from behind or with an object obscuring his face. They also dubbed in audio of Shemp's voice, although occasionally its Palma's actual voice. I pulled out all the fake Shemp footage (also a couple of lines referring to Shemp's conspicuous absence) from those four shorts and strung them together. (Sorry, the audio level varies among the shorts, but the audio is not the point anyway.) The re-edited films range from clever to blatantly patchy, and Stooge fans often dismiss them as second-rate. "Rumpus in the Harem" re-uses footage from "Malice in the Palace"; "Hot Stuff" from "Fuelin' Around"; and "Commotion on the Ocean" from "Dunked in the Deep". The best (and most technically accomplished) is "Scheming Schemers", combining new footage with recycled clips from three old Stooge shorts: "A Plumbing We Will Go", "Half-Wits Holiday", and "Vagabond Loafers". As an aside, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell (both avowed Stooge fans) coined the term "Fake Shemp" or simply "Shemp" to mean a stand-in or <b>...</b>

I'm not convinced that he's even a real doctor. Regardless, a pretty fun level in my opinion, but watch out for that glide over to the platform with the pink/purple gem on it as it can be pretty tricky to make successfully.

BOSS FIGHT! Second boss. Easier than the first I would dare to say, not because of the boss himself, but because there's no dogs here. The boss has real attacks though, unlike Toasty. The attacks also get trickier each time you hit him, but they're easy to dodge (as seen here) and... yeah, that's it. Burn him 3 times and it's done. The second attack he does is the hardest for first timers, because you don't know you should flame him immediately when you come close to him and the attack WOULD be very difficult to dodge if you failed. I didn't, so you didn't get to see it.

They agree to accompany her on an African expedition, and when Bud overhears that Clyde Beatty has been offered $20000 to lead the expedition, he feels that the map is worth considerably more than $2500. [From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - Returning to what I believe was a great influence on Ernie Kovacs' comedic style is the zany 1941 film "Hellzapoppin'" starring Ole Olsen (the taller member of the team) and Chic Johnson. Virtually unknown today, Olsen &Johnson were stars of vaudeville, radio, movies and television from 1914 to their deaths in the early 1960's. In this clip from the movie we perhaps see the seeds of Kovacs' inspiration, as virtually every visual comic raised through that era has been influenced by their madcap comedy. Not only is "the fourth wall" broken but there is the supposed juxtaposition of a different movie within the main film, in addition to making mechanical elements theatre film projection integrated into the movie's plot line. It is taking the audience out of it's normal realm of perception about watching a movie. Perhaps it can be attributed more to the film's writers, Nat Perrin and Warren Wilson, and director Harry Potter (that was the actual screen credit!) than Olsen & Johnson themselves but it appears to be one of the first times that such a plot and visual device was used. This relates perfectly to Kovacs' subsequent zany creative style. Also featured in this clip is Curly and Moe Howard's brother Shemp, in addition to actors Jody Gilbert and Lewis Howard.
