Five banks are set to appear before the Central Bank of Kenya over claims they are hoarding over 260 million US Dollars, the equivalent of 23 billion shillings at current exchange rate. This according to central bank of Kenya is believed to have contributed to the sharp decline in the value of the Kenya shilling in recent weeks. CBK governor Prof. Njuguna Ndung'u warns that the banks will be restricted from any speculative activity using the domestic currency, to avoid exerting more pressure on the local unit which was yesterday trading at a mean rate of 90 shillings and 40 cents to the dollar .and as Tony Sanya reports, the CBK has not escaped blame for doing little to stem the shillings depreciation, even as consumers look to hard times ahead.

Two more Ministry of Education officials were this morning charged in court over the free Primary education scandal. It is alleged that Concelia Aoko Ondiek an acting director of secondary and tertiary education and Patrick Lumumba Aghan fraudulently acquired three Million shillings each from the ministry of education. Concelia is alleged to have illegally allocated herself the money on pretext that she was conducting a capacity building workshop for secondary schools. Patrick Lumumba Aghan, an assistant director of education faces four counts among them fraudulently acquiring 3 million shillings, abuse of office, making a false statement and false accounting. The two were released on a 1 million shilling bond or a cash bail of half a million shillings.

Referee Israel Mongo had to run away after being hit by some Young African FC players in a Tanzania's Premier League football match against Azam FC on 10 March 2012 at Taifa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Young Africans' left back Stephano Mwasika, who was found guilty of directly punching the referee, has been banned for a year and fined one million Tanzanian shillings by the TFF's premier soccer league committee. Other Yanga players who have been fined to the tune of half million shillings and slapped three-match bans include Nurdin Bakari and Omega Seme. Beside the half million shillings fine, Jerry Tegete has been banned for six months while centre back Haroub has to serve six-match ban.
