Rush Limbaugh Apologizes to Sandra Fluke - NBC's Shomari Stone

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has apologized for insulting Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke on his radio show earlier this week. In a statement published on his website, Limbaugh said: "I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke ... My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices." The apology comes after several sponsors had pulled their patronage of Limbaugh's program as a result of the controversy. Fluke testified before a House committee this week in support of President Barack Obama's policy requiring most companies to provide free birth control. Fluke said her friend at Georgetown University needs birth control pills to prevent ovarian cysts. She also testified that without insurance, the pill can cost more than $3000 a year. On his national radio show Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh told his audience that providing Fluke with birth control coverage would make all Americans her "johns".

ABC'S Shomari Stone Exclusive: 7 Yr. Old Dies in Sledding Accident (2/20/11)

KENT, Wash. -- The parents of a 7-year-old boy killed in a sledding accident near Snoqualmie Pass said Sunday night there was nothing they could do to save their son. Jacob Ponce begged his parents to take him sledding Saturday. It was his first time ever sledding and his parents say he was so excited. Bu the family's joy ended in heartbreak when Jacob crashed into a car on State Route 906. "I love my son and I don't know how I am going to deal without him," said Jacob's mother Karim Zapana. Ponce says he pulled Jacob up a hill with with a sled attached to a rope. But suddenly, the rope unraveled, gave loose, and Jacob slid down the hill into traffic. As the boy was sledding downhill, he tried to stop but couldn't and slid out onto the two-lane highway, an access road that parallels Interstate 90. The boy was ejected from the sled in front of an approaching Toyota Camry and was hit. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and was pronounced dead at about 4 pm His father remembers Jacob's last words: "He started to smile and he told me, 'I'm having fun. I'm having fun. I'm happy.' He was going backwards. He didn't see where he was going and somehow he disappeared and I couldn't do anything," Ponce said. Jacob loved to sing with his sister. He suffered from a genetic disorder but that didn't stop him from playing with Batman, Transformers and Iron Man. He also liked to wear suits, and dreamed of becoming a pastor when he grew up. Ashley also had residence in the 1000 block of East Main Street in Radford, Va., where he attended Radford University part-time as a business management major. NBC Washington's Shomari Stone Reports: Containers Nuclear Power Plant Containers Shifted (9/1/11)

NBC Washington's Shomari Stone: Containers Nuclear Power Plant Containers Shifted (9/1/11) (September 1, 2011) Last week's 5.8-magnitude earthquake caused massive storage containers at the North Anna Nuclear Power Station to shift, Dominion Virginia Power officials said Thursday. The nuclear plant is located just 12 miles from the epicenter of the quake. Both reactors were taken off-line by the tremors. Dominion officials said the containers are still intact but 25 of them shifted as muc...h as 4.5 inches during the quake. Those containers store used fuel and can weigh up to 115 tons when they're full. The company said crews are evaluating whether they need to move the containers back to their original position, but they believe the containers are still safely spaced. The earthquake also caused cosmetic damage to concrete containers that hold other fuel-storage canisters, according to Dominion. But those containers were not shifted and maintained the used fuel inside in a safe condition.

(2003) CBS 4 Miami's Shomari Stone Breaks Slick Rick Incarceration Case

(2003) CBS Miami Reporter Shomari Stone broke the Slick Rick Incarceration case. A source tipped Stone off. Stone drove to Bradenton, FL and exclusively interviewed the Hip Hop Pioneer. The report ultimately lead to Slick Rick's freedom. New York Governor David Patterson gave Slick Rick a full pardon on May 23, 2008, ending a deportation threat that has hung over the rapper for 11 years. According to The New York Times, Governor Patterson delivered the pardon to prevent the MC from being deported to England, where he was born and lived until the age of 11. In 1991, Slick Rick (Ricky Walters) was convicted of attempted murder and weapons charges after he shot and injured his cousin and an acquaintance. Rick served five years and 12 days in prison before being paroled in 1997, but a law that threatens to deport immigrants convicted of aggravated felony or weapons charges had always loomed large. In 2002, Slick Rick was arrested aboard a docked Caribbean cruise ship — by the INS, who had been fighting for his deportation since 1995. He spent a year in an immigration detention center in Bradenton, Florida, before a judge ruled he could go free in 2003. (Source: WFOR and MTV News)

First Lady Michelle Obama Shops at Target / NBC Washington's Shomari Stone Reports

NBC Washington Reporter Shomari Stone Reports: Attention Target shoppers: You could have been standing in line with Michelle Obama. The first lady, hard to recognize in a baseball cap and sunglasses, shopped Thursday at a Target store at Potomac Yard Shopping Center in Alexandria, Va. Casually dressed Secret Service agents arrive about a half-hour before Mrs. Obama, who walked in through the main entrance with an assistant. She spent 30 to 40 minutes shopping, pushing her own cart. She apparently was recognized only by the cashier who rang up her purchases. Since coming to the White House, Mrs. Obama has lamented missing out on what she calls "normal stuff," like Target runs. She isn't the first first lady to try to go out unrecognized. Hillary Rodham Clinton went for walks wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, too. www.NBCWASHINGTON.com (Copyright Associated Press / NBC Washington)
