Shores have made a video for "One Palm Sunday" from their debut LP, Coup de Grace, released earlier this month on No Idea Records! Shores is a two piece project composed of Brian Przybylski on guitar, vocals, bass & John Massel (of North Lincoln fame) on drums and have been compared to the slowcore movement of the mid-90s, ie Bedhead, Codeine, Low, and June of 44. Coup de Grace was recorded late 2008 by Matt Younker, Christian Kremo, and Josh Stacey at The White Lodge in Wayland, MI; mixed 2009 by the same Christian Kremo and mastered in 2010 by Derron Nuhfer at Sarlacc Mastering. The band has already recorded a follow up album entitled To Volstead. Top surfers from each shore battled it out in a head-to-head surf competition for ultimate island bragging rights. To keep things fair, the event was again held on the Eastside of Oahu at Sandy Beach, which is neutral territory and will be the last year at this location. Before the Red Bull Rivals 2009 competition, no surf event had been held at this popular surf location since the Gotcha Pro back in the early '80s. Instead of a traditional purse prize, the teams competed for each others' surfboards used in the competition (similar to racing for pink slips) and, of course, the winning team will earned the ultimate surfing bragging rights. Beach House have revealed the details of their third album, their first release on new label Sub Pop. Teen Dream will be released on January 26, 2010 on CD and LP. It was produced and engineered by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Grizzly Bear) Beach House, Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand, have been playing music forever, each since childhood in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and France . Beach House formed in the summer, it was very late at night and there was a lot of heat. Their songs start simple and grow organically like tiny skeletons that multiply layers of necessary flesh. In the Beach House world, outside influences have been purely atmospheric. There are many groups and artists that have entranced the duo: Zombies, Brian Wilson, Neil Young, Big Star, Chris Bell, the list goes on; however, there isn't one particular group or artist that Beach House admires more than another. Phil Coulter - Shores of the Swilly
I hope Phil doesn't mind me posting these next two videos... This first one is his tribute to his sister Cyd who drowned in Lough Swilly (Lake of Shadows). Phil knew that Sinéad O'Connor was the only person to sing the lyrics, and so it is her that makes an appearance on this track. She has a gorgeous voice, and manages to do justice to this very emotional piece. Cyd was a Councillor for people with drug/alcohol issues She got a call, on the afternoon of her son's 10th birthday party, from one of her cases. She was found a couple of days later in the Swilly, her car had to be lifted out by crane... With Phil standing on watching. The addict she'd gone to see had, according to Phil (in an interview with Éamon Dunphy on RTÉ 27/09/2009), fixated on her and ended up driving her car, with her still in it, into The Swilly.
