Back in May, we start with a look at Richard Lewis' 7850 going full tilt but then a peek over the hedge and we see that awesome rake, the Claas 4000, so we go and join him in the next field, along the lane and up the hill. We have an interlude where we go into the lane to record the slog up the hill with the John Deere 6930 and loaded trailer. Then more raking and a distant view of the 7850 still at work in the first field.

Back up the hill to the farm where the lads are busy with the grass. Rolling with the classic Ford 7740 and spreading with the New Holland. Quick look at some prime livestock outside the barn, as well, if my memory serves me correctly. A great farm with views of the Black Mountains and hopefully will see it again next year. John Deere 7950 and another, 7850, attacking this crop of grass and kicking off the 2011 silage season, for me, anyrate. Also, because this was in the way of a trial run, as well as tow foragers, there are both JCBs on the pit. There is also a platform ride with Huw on the 7950 - one of the last times that Huw drove the forager, he's retired to the office, now.

The scene is a whole crop field miles from the farm. John Deere 7850 with 21' header (if I remember rightly). Belting through the wheat initially throwing into trailer but later towing it. (getting a trailer on the back before starting wasn't practicable).

John Deere 7530 and Case Puma 210 with a mixture of mowers. Setting into about 100 acres of grass to be cut and lifted and carried several miles. With about 60' of mowing between them it doesn't take long.

All compeditors were using Vintage tractors (pre 1981), they travelled from Cork, Waterford Tipperary Offaly Mayo Silgo Roscommon & even the UK to take part in this event in Dunmore Co. Galway on July 31'st 2011 as part of the Dunmore Vintage Show. 26 Real Grassmen using these vintage machines took part in setting a record. That day I well remember because there were too many farmers lifting grass that day and the last one I didn't get to at all. This was the first call and some very nice activity, too. We get a ride in JD 6930 (a real gentleman, he picked me up in the lane where I was walking to the field, not being sure if there was anywhere to park). Then into a new, large, field with a more open view - and a dead Oak I longed to get home for the log-burner!
