This is one of my favorite tunes by Al Petteway. Someone always seem to request it at Jam Sessions. I've been growing my nails back out recently and they are just barely long enough to play this tune. I had to be careful not to dig in too much. I can't imagine doing this tune without a thumbpick. I played this on my small bodied cutaway Lowden. It has a nice tight bass register that works well for this tune. As always, DADGAD tuned down a step.

Oddsocks Revival was born in Co.Sligo, Ireland with the sole purpose of bringing you good time Rock & Roll, Funk and Blues. A striking stage presence and blend of music styles has given them a solid rep as a band who will keep the good times rolling. These four talented lads have been playing together since the summer of 2003 and have developed a powerful connection on stage which is evident at every gig. Bass player Michael Conefrey is heavily influenced by the 70s classic rock style. He provides the band with its underlying driving-blues bass lines and powerful vocals. Hard-hitting funk drummer Eoghan O Kelly brings those groovy rhythms into the mix of this rock and roll factory. On guitar and vocals Anthony Mannion, A highly acclaimed guitar player that pours out his original style of screaming guitars and funky rhythms with an unwavering passion! Luke Mercer gets strong influence from the bluesy rock and roll and funk sounds of the 70s. He brings a sweet and sour, bone crunching blues sound through his delectable guitar riffs and smile broadening lyrics. The Oddsocks lads are just back from a tour with Alabama 3 after been asked to support them on their latest Irish tour. The tour seen them impress crowds across the country and cement a following in many towns. The tour culminated with the Oddsocks revival and Alabama 3 performing 2 songs together for the encore. Séamus & Manus McGuire from Sligo play two reels-- two brothers,two fiddles, two doctors, two brilliant musicians. Seamus and Manus are from Sligo town. Seamus is a consultant in the General Hospital in Letterkenny, County Donegal. and has released a scorching recording with fellow Letterkenny resident (native of Co. Leitrim) Sean Lee on flute entitled An Ril ar Lar (prn = uhn reel air laar - The missing reel". Manus is in general practice in east Clare. Their recording "The Humours of Lisadell" is probably most representative of their duet playing. Manus is also a member of the band "Moving Cloud" who have recently recorded.

Fin Whale butchered at Raghly, Sligo, Ireland. (Time lapse)
On the 28th of November 2011 a dead Fin Whale was washed up on Ardtermon Strand near Raghly in Sligo, Ireland. The whale was probably 2 to 3 years old. Some local people organised a project to preserve the skeleton. On December 10th, the Whale was moved to Raghly Harbour. 5 butchers from Slovakia and Brazil got to work dissecting the animal as 2 PHD students from UCG, who are studying Fin Whales, removed and cataloged all of the bones. The bones will be treated over the next year and finally rebuilt into a skeleton to be put on public display. This video is a partial time lapse of the event. Donal and Pearse began 2009 with their first European Tour, The Sub-Zero Tour named so due to the below freezing temperatures which stretched from January into February and from Scandinavia to Iberia. Highlights of the tour included a jammed packed troubadour Gig in Earls court, London, two great shows in Bristol and the Freetown Christiania Gig in Copenhagen. They were special guests on the Italian Radio Punto and were featured on the German Balcony TV Hamburg while on their travels. Túcan are a band designed to cross borders as their music has a universal language and mixes so many genres to create their distinctive sound. Túcans debut album Aliquot Strings was released on 29th May 09 and went straight into the Irish Charts. Donal and Pearse have mined the riches of their talent to deliver a collection of nine tracks which cement their emerging reputation as one of the most exciting new Irish acts. Aliquot, meaning several in latin, is an apt choice of word to indicate the variety of sounds which fluidly grace and infuse this album. From classical and 60s rock to heavy metal, trad, flamenco and jazz, Túcan seamlessly weave an enchanting sound from their repertoire. From the opening chords of Garavogue, dedicated to the river that runs through their hometown, Túcan fearlessly set out their musical stall. Having completed their university studies in 2006, Donal and Pearse embarked on a career as Túcan taking them from Prague to Brisbane and even getting barred from <b>...</b>
