I wanted to compare my three small bodied guitars in open position with a flatpick. In order they are: Collings C-10 - deep body - adi/mah; Martin 000-18GE - adi/mah; Collings OM - short scale - Koa/sitka. The guitars are in FGDGBE tunning. All three guitars have the same type strings and i tried to emphasize the low and high registers for comparison purposes. I really appreciate your feedback - it is great to hear from other players, thanks!

www.myspace.com Here's a little film which I made this weekend, with a Flip camera. It is about a guitar, called the Fender Newporter, a small-bodied mahogany acoustic instrument, made around 1967 or so. Forty years later, when I got it, all that remained was just a wrecked guitar body. About two and a half years ago it was transformed into a different sort of guitar, and I have played it pretty much every day since then. (As the guitar had been trimmed down a bit, I also trimmed down its name a little, and re-christened it "The Fender Newport", but I have also given it a nickname). The rest of the story is in the film. www.myspace.com

This is a cheap, all laminate Washburn parlour I got so I could take it to the pub without having to worry about it getting trampled by herds of stampeding binge drinkers! Took it to our local workshop at Guitarlodge and had the action lowered and we installed a nice set of horn bridge pins. It has the bright tone you would expect from such a small bodied guitar, but it's so light and easy to play I can't put it down!

New toy arrives in the Recording-Pit here at Disgracelands. A Lindo Travel guitar, bought from ebay for the tidy sum of £30 (about $40), so much cheaper than the Martin backpacker. This batch had minor issues with the paint finish, hence the low price, but apart from that it's a pretty decent little guitar. Playable straight out of the box, no buzzes, rattles or any other grief, it's holding tune well and has a sweet sound, like a hybrid resonator guitar/banjo. Nice resonance for such a small bodied device. Definitely a bargain. Now I guess I've gotta actually travel somewhere !

WS is a versatile guitar. Combining the best qualities of large and small bodied guitars, this body shape is ideally suited for a variety of musical situations. A large, deep chamber gives the WS strong projection and rich bass. The narrow waist and tight upper bout allow for a ringing treble, good balance and clear definition of individual notes. Overall, the WS is impeccably balanced. . Fitted with the FMI nut and saddle by The Guitar Spa Singapore

The small bodied but HUGE sounding singlecone reso from Republic guitars, Texas!! I've got some clips here showing it in open tunings, here's a clip that shows how nice this guitar works in standard tuning.. The cutaway is useful and as always, it takes a while to get used to the shorter scale. But after 5 minutes of playing I don't even think of it.. Here I have 0.10-0.46 strings and it really works well, so easy to play. The sound is often better on biscuit reso's with lighter string gauges.. The action is great, but for open tunings and bottleneck style I go for much heavier strings!! I've played this one since November now and I really love this guitar! Now it's recorded on a few songs on my coming CD, this album containing only my own songs is due for release in March/April!!!

In this segment we get to check out two of Richard Hoover's latest creations - the 1929 OO and 1929 OOO acoustics. The 1929 OO is a 12-fret small bodied acoustic that features all solid mahogany top, back, sides and even mahogany binding. The body and size of the OO is very similar to classical acoustics. The big brother of the OO, the 1929 OOO is a similar in body style and size to the OM, but features 12 frets and a slotted headstock with a "V" neck profile. The OOO also features solid mahogany top, back and sides. For more Summer NAMM '09 coverage or to view our completely FREE digital edition of Premier Guitar magazine, be sure to visit http

This beautiful lefty 00 style guitar was hand-built by Richard "Otterhound" Eyman. As a member of the www.leftyfrets.net community, I was awarded the chance to play the Otterhound before sending it off to the next leftyfrets member. The guitar has beautiful workmanship, amazingly comfortable body and neck, and excellent tone, balance and projection, particularly for a small bodied guitar. I look forward to seeing and hearing Richard's next creations. I composed this piece in DAF#DAD tuning (high to low). This piece was inspired by my Rebonita Chilenita.

Good tabs in Stefan Grossman's book, "Delta Blues" (though I changed a couple of things, and added the boogie-woogie and harmonica). One must never forget that there were two (and Grossman alludes to three) "Willy Brown"s. One - "M&O Blues", "Future Blues" - was a contemporary, and played with, Charlie Patton, Son House and Robert Johnson. But this Willy Brown - "Mississippi Blues", "Ragged and Dirty" - is a different person, not part of the above group, with a completely different guitar style. ********************************** It is only with great reluctance, and after many therapy sessions, that I have decided to once again play the harmonica, here and now on YouTube. And really only because my cat likes it. Nearly twenty years ago, up near the small community of Snake's Navel, Kentucky, in some dive I don't remember the name of, I abruptly laid it down, to never play again until now. I will spare yourself and myself the painful and specific details of that night, saying only that it involved the volatile mix of a spurned and angry woman, a harmonica, a brass spittoon, a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber snub-nose (Which - Thank My Lucky Angel! - that woman didn't know was only a five-shot revolver, and not six), and of course, heavy drinking. ********************************** Played finger style on my 6-string Republic brass-bodied "Resolian" resophonic parlor guitar, and I'll tell you why: No way I'm having the slobber and spittle that drools and sprays out of a blues <b>...</b>

From the 1975 album Joy Will Find Way. I learned and recorded this on the fly & there's some fancy parts to the accompaniment that I'm missing. I bought this Gibson 'Early 60s reissue' Hummingbird today and damn am I excited about it. Always favoured small bodied/lightly built guitars, but this thing is just majestic.

The Gibson Blues King L-00 is based on the small body designs of the 1930s Gibson L-00, but it now has a slightly shallower body depth for what Gibson calls a fuller, more balanced tone. Hear the music, see the solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, see the yellow shirt, see the Cubs visor - it's a guitar strumming session!

BLUES FOR AFTER THE RAIN Instrumental Guitar Composition by Robert Len Stallard -- Guitarist-Composer (c) Copyright 2007 - All rights reserved. In this video, I perform my original instrumental guitar composition "Blues for after the Rain". This is one of the tunes I most enjoy performing. ABOUT THE TECHNIQUES -------------------------------------------------------------- The guitar tuning for this song is DADFAD (D minor) and I use some of my usual "self-derived" techniques that define my guitar playing style. The only effects I use for the guitar are EQ and reverb recorded in stereo. I'm playing my trusty Ibanez Talman TCY20VV small-bodied acoustic-electric guitar. ABOUT THE COMPOSITION -------------------------------------------------------------- This tune reveals my influences from blues and progressive rock music such as that from Pink Floyd, Yes and others. Though it is a bit long, the tune presents several variations throughout so it's like several songs in one. Hence, I categorize it as "progressive-symphonic" blues. I composed this tune between January and September 2005. My inspiration came from two events: A night without electricity after a severe thunder storm and evacuating <b>...</b>

As I said, this uke is not mine, but I had to play it at least once before shipping it out. I think that this shows a great deal of intestinal fortitude, for two reasons. One - the camera does not do it justice, and two - the camera does not do it justice. My voice doesn't help either. This thing has fantastic projection and tone; it'll cut through a jam session with ease. I actually lightened my attack because it was just that loud (without losing that charming uke voicing.) Anyway, for fun I bungle through "All the Small things" by Blink 182. Enjoy!
