Smartphone Picture Uploads Can Reveal Location of Your Children's Home, School, and Play Areas

www.superutils.com The storage of location based data, in the form of Latitude and Longitude inside of images is called Geotagging; essentially tagging your photograph with the geographic location. This data is stored inside if the metadata if JPEG images and is useful for tying the photograph to a location. Want to remember exactly where you took those photographs while on vacation? This information is for you. However, most modern digital cameras do not automatically add geolocation (Latitude and Longitude) metadata to pictures. The process for adding the geolocation data either requires specialized add on hardware, or post processing with software on the desktop after the pictures are taken. There is a large exception to this rule: Smartphones. With the proliferation of smart phones that contain GPS locator technology inside, the cameras in these devices are already equipped with the specialized hardware to automatically add geolocation information to the pictures at the time they are taken. Most people don't realize that the action of automatic geotagging takes place on their smart phones, either because it is enabled by default, not exposed the user as an option, or was asked and then forgotten. As a result, individuals often share too much information about their location, right down to the exact Latitude and Longitude when snapping photos with their smartpphone and posting them online. To delete geotags from JPEG photos, just apply the batch Windows utility ...

How to Disable Mobile Geotagging (CNET)

www.superutils.com Location services can be useful, but you may be exposing more than you think. Sharon Vaknin explains the security risk of geotagging and how to disable it. Before you tweet a photo of your delicious, homemade dish, check your settings — your phone might be embedding coordinates in your photos, leaving your location open to prying eyes. Using the built-in GPS, phone camera applications can embed the latitude and longitude of a location in photos. Coordinates aren't shown in your photo library, but if you post a geotagged pic online, someone with an evil motive can easily extract the photo's EXIF data and find out where you live, eat, or hang out. Creepy, right? This is a big security risk, especially for parents who post photos of their children online. So if you want to disable geotagging on your Android, iPhone, or BlackBerry phone, check out this how-to. And if you need to delete geotagging data from already taken JPEG photos, check out the ExifCleaner batch utility for Windows. Original video: cnettv.cnet.com

Samsung Galaxy 2 TouchWiz 4.0 Tour (Homescreen, Settings, etc)

Learn more here: bit.ly The Samsung Galaxy S 2 comes loaded with TouchWiz 4.0, Samsung's competitor to HTC Sense and Motorola Blur for Android. TouchWiz impacts every aspect of the operating system, from the email app and browser, to the homescreens, app tray, notification shade, and settings. In this video we take a look at what Samsung has done with their latest Android replacement. To start, they've changed the way you move items from homescreen to homescreen by introducing a gesture that allows you to use the gyroscope to move through the homescreens without having to tap and drag items to the edges of the screen. Also, the widget menu is now a horizontally scrolling list, not a vertical one found in most other Android interfaces. Speaking of widgets, Samsung has added a wide variety of widgets, many of which can be resized. Widgets include weather, analog and digital clocks, celenader, note pad, task manager, and much more. You can have up to seven homescreens, which is managed by entering the zoomed-out homescreen view, accessible by a pinch gesture from the homescreen. Beyond the homescreens, the app tray has been spruced up. The paginated app tray can be customized with new additional pages, folders, and icons in different places. In terms of settings, Samsung has given the user the ability to change the system font, which is a nice touch. In terms of input, you can use the default Samsung keyboard (which is usable in a T9-like pad or full QWERTY), plus there is ...

Nokia N8: Behind the 12 megapixel camera, Beautiful natural images

Nokia's imaging expert Damian Dinning explains how they listened to what people like in pictures, what don't they like, etc, and bring that in to the Nokia N8. They wanted to create something really natural with the images on the N8. Damian says Nokia combined the great Carl Zeiss optics with a large sensor (the biggest sensor ever put into a mobile) to give them the best platform to produce beautiful natural images. They're really proud of the results. Damian also showed a book of photos printed on A3 paper (11.69 × 16.54 inches). They were taken from the Nokia N8, with some comparisons to other cameras. You'd be more amazed to see it in person. The Nokia N8 has a 12 megapixel camera with xenon flash.
