These are photos of the main entrance with a CP3O from "Star Wars," a lot of first inventions, a Thomas Edison exhibit, a transportation exhibit, Kermit the Frog, Oscar the Grouch, the ruby slippers from Wizard of OZ, and lots of Abraham Lincoln items. Definitely worth a trip to see.

When the elephant keepers at the Smithsonian's National Zoo hear the sound of a harmonica, it's not the radio they've left on. Instead, it's the Zoo's 36-year-old Asian elephant, Shanthi, who, unsolicited, has a propensity for coming up with her own ditties using whatever instruments the keepers have provided. These include harmonicas, horns and other noisemakers. The Zoo has captured some of Shanthi's most recent capriccios on this video. The keepers provided the instruments after they noticed that Shanthi, more so than the Zoo's two other elephants, likes to make noise with objects. According to keepers, she will use her trunk to cover anything with a hole in it and blow until it makes a sound—and will often coax the objects to get different types of sounds from it. She taps objects with her trunk and flaps her ears against objects that make noise. Now they give the melodious pachyderm noisemakers as a form of enrichment. Shanthi is the mother of the Zoo's 10-year-old calf, Kandula. Asian elephants are endangered in the wild, where 30000 to 50000 Asian elephants still live in the forests of south and southeast Asia. Visitors to the Zoo can watch an elephant demonstration, which sometimes includes Shanthi's musical skills, at 11 am most days at the Zoo's Elephant Trails.

The exhibit will allow visitors an up-close look of selected items. The Smithsonian Institution in the US has unveiled a new display on Thursday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. The exhibit, "September 11: Remembrance and Reflection" features 50 objects from New York, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania connected to the attacks. The exhibit has objects on display without protective glass casings for visitors to get a more personal view of the unusual artifacts. Items on display include a video camera used to capture the only video of the first airplane hitting the North Tower of the word Trade Center as well as former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani's cell phone he used on September 1. A fire truck door from a Brooklyn truck that was buried in debris after the towers collapsed is also on display. Items from the Pentagon include a clock that was frozen in time at 9:32 am, the moment the plane crashed into the Pentagon and medallions that melted together in the intense heat from fire that burned a portion of the building. John Cephas and Phil Wiggins, Piedmont Blues duo extraordinaire, do what they do best, in addition to explaining the musical difference between Piedmont and Delta style Blues. John Cephas, Bowling Green, Caroline County, Virginia Although he was born in Washington, DC, John Cephas's family hails from the Piedmont region, where he now lives. He has been one of the major proponents of the Piedmont-style blues guitar, and he was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship in 1989. Phil Wiggins, Takoma Park, Montgomery County, Maryland John Cephas and Phil Wiggins met at the 1977 Smithsonian Folklife Festival and have been playing together ever since. With a forwarded resume, Larry (Ben Stiller) becomes another caretaker at the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits (Such as Theodore Roosevelt and Dexter) and new exhibits (like General Custer and Al Capone) back to life, and in conflict with each other. Larry enlists the help of Amelia Earheart, who he develops a romantic interest in, and together they try to put everything back in order.

A grandson of the late Cambodian film maker, Vann Chan, screened on Sunday a trailer for a documentary about Cambodian cinema in the 1960s and 70s at the Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institute, in Washington DC. Davy Chou, maker of the new film "Golden Slumbers,'' showed film clips and told the audience about the history of Cambodia's golden age of cinema and of the success of his grandfather's work at Vann Chan Film Production. He spoke about an array of Cambodian screen stars and filmmakers. Davy Chou, whose parents are Cambodian and who grew up in France, hopes to complete the documentary before the end of the year. Chou says he was shocked when he realized how his grandfather's legacy is being forgotten. Nearly all of the film stars from that era were killed by the Khmer Rouge. Many cinemas become karaoke parlors, hotels or were taken over by squatters. And a lady occupying his grandparent's home said to him and his mother "Oh I saw those films but we threw them away!"

The marimba is a vivid legacy of African presence in Latin America. But only on the Pacific coast of southern Colombia and northern Ecuador does it keep its close connections to a strongly African culture. Hailing from small towns along the Colombian coast, the seasoned women singers of Cantadoras del Pacífico raise their voices to the accompaniment of marimba and drums, performing their distinctive styles of music known collectively as currulao. Two years after Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) defeated the 3 old night guards, he is now head of Daley Devices, a company that he founded to manufacture his inventions. These inventions, including the Glow-in-the-Dark Flashlight, were created from his experiences as a former night guard. He finds that the American Museum of Natural History is closed for upgrades and renovations, and some of the museum pieces are being replaced by interactive holograms. The actual exhibits are moved to the Federal Archives at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. On the last night, Larry meets the museum pieces such as Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Rexy the Tyrannosaurus Skeleton, and Dexter the Capuchin Monkey (Crystal the Monkey) and finds out that several exhibits, including Teddy, Rexy, the Easter Island Head (Brad Garrett), and Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek) are not moving to The Smithsonian Institution - the other exhibits will no longer be animated. The next night, Larry gets a call from Jedediah (Owen Wilson), saying that Dexter stole the tablet, and that Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria), Ahkmenrah's older brother, is attacking them. Their most recent album, "Son de Mi Tierra", was released in 2009 by Smithsonian Folkways and was recently named a finalist for the 2009 Independent Music Awards as the "Best Latin Album". Founded in 1992, Son de Madera forms part of the current jaranero movement. Its main goal is to diffuse son jarocho based on the research of traditional forms, the incorporation of new sounds, and the revival of community gatherings of music-making and dance called fandangos. Sarah Sze constructs extraordinary sculptures through an intricate assemblage of household objects. Her site-specific installations defy gravity in towering formations of mixed materials, and the contrast between small objects and large compositions explores the boundaries between art and everyday life. Sze was born in Boston and received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work has been exhibited internationally for over a decade, and she is the 2003 recipient of the MacArthur "Genius" Award. She currently lives and works in New York.
