Here, we have some typical homemade smoke bombs that leave my workshop, for use in Airsoft, pantball, Emergency signaling...........or just plain old laddish mischief! They are all different sizes and therefore give off different amounts of smoke (see the video for weights of each device) The compositions are fairly straight forward and use chemicals familar to any reasonable pyrotechnician. the comps are as followed: YELLOW= Solvent Yellow Dye/ KClO3/ Lactose (50/30/20) RED= Solvent Red Dye/ KClO3/ Lactose (50/30/20) Legendary WHITE= KNO3/ Sugar/ Paraffin Wax (60/40/+40) All the devices filled the forest with dense smoke, and because there wasn't much of a wind, it lingered for some time! This is how to make a good smoke bomb. DON'T FORGET TO ADD BAKING SODA! The ones at the end are from a previous mixture and I didn't have enough baking soda. *NOTE* potassium nitrate can be found at garden shops (usually NOT in the chain-stores like Wal-Mart, etc.) as it is a fertilizer. If that fails, I find that Google can find some websites that sell potassium nitrate.

Update 12-07-08: The ingredients: 400 grams potassium nitrate (KNO3) 200 grams sugar (C12H22O11) 400 ml water (H2O) 80 grams corn-syrup The Process: Using a portable skillet set the temperature to 375 and boil the mixture making sure to watch it diligently. The process could take anywhere from 30 min to 1 hour depending on the temperature. Make sure you constantly stir the mixture until it turns a deep dark brown as you see in the video and until it becomes malleable like putty. Don't worry if you burn some parts of the mixture, if you look closely you can see I burned parts as well. Experiment with different times and different temperatures, but remember to always have a fire extinguisher near by and do this OUTSIDE only.
