How to Solder Waterproof LED Strip Light
How to Solder Waterproof LED Strip Light shows instructions for how to open, solder, and reseal waterproof LED tape light. It takes just minutes and gives you a secure, safe, and water-tight connection to a low voltage power source. Video Transcription: You'll need a knife, a pair of scissors, some waterproof sealant, solder, waterproof strip light end caps, a clip, a soldering iron, and waterproof solder connectors. First, cut the strip to the desired length at the cut point between pairs of contacts. Then, cutting parallel to the strip, cut and peal back the silicon coating, just enough to expose the contacts. You can use your finger to remove any excess silicon. Then put the strip in the clip to keep the contacts exposed. Cut a hole in the end cap. Slide the waterproof solder connector in. Before soldering, you're going to want to test the polarity of the strip. If it doesn't light up in one direction simply flip the wires over. Each solder connector has black lines on one lead to remind you of the polarity. Then you'll need some waterproof sealant. You want to put some inside the waterproof strip light end cap. Move the wire around a little bit to make sure it's in there. Put a bead of solder, a small bead, on each one of the contacts on the strip. Then, using the soldering iron, you can heat up <b>...</b>

Soldering 1mm SOIC and 0.5mm TQFP using regular soldering iron and home made flux
The 1mm SOIC is easily soldered even without flux but 0.5mm TQFP is a nasty little bugger. If you don't have a good soldering iron tip and good solder flux soldering these is nasty. Trying to solder 0.5mm pitch tqfp with regular flux (kester no-clean from pen for eg or FL15048 from bottle) makes it almost impossible. If I use PACE with micro-wave tip it works but using a regular cheap soldering iron with chisel tip makes it almost impossible. When using more expensive flux paste (usually in syringe) it works nicely but those can be expensive. I use some amtech flux in syringe and the soldering works perfectly but darn thing smells awful .. makes me wanna throw up any time I solder something.. That's why I made my own home made flux, it is super cheap, smells nice and works perfectly. Both cleaning and wetting of the surface works great. It was very hard manipulating soldering iron, small board and chip under this super small camera so you see I had issues aligning the chips properly, but you can see how well the flux help solder wet the joins :) The flux is applied attm with "a piece of wire dipped into flux" .. I need to get some brush to do that properly next time :D Flux us made out of IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and Rosin (the stuff you use for violin fiddle) Read more here: dangerousprototypes.com
