Here it is! (Take 393 :-) The third movement, Allegro Solemne, from La Catedral by Barrios played by me, Samantha Muir. La Catedral was written in 1914 after Barrios visited the Cathedral of San Jose in Montevideo, Uraguay. One day Barrios was passing by the church when he heard the music of JS Bach being played on the great organ. He went inside to listen to the music. The 2nd movement, Andante Religioso, reflects this experience. After listening to the music he returned to the busy, bustling street full of light and movement... This is captured in the 3rd movement, Allegro Solemne. The work was originally just 2 movements but in 1938 Barrios wrote the beautiful Preludio Saudade for his wife Gloria and decided to add it to La Catedral as a 1st movement. The movement adds a prayer-like stillness to the work. La Catedral is my favourite guitar work. I think of it as beauty and the beast - the 1st and 2nd movements are "beauty" and the 3rd movement is a real beast to play! Phew! :-)

This is the last of the three movements of La Catedral by the Paraguayan composer Agustin Barrios Mangore. The piece was originally composed in 1914 following an experience Barrios had in the Cathedral of San Jose in Montevideo, Uraguay. The second movement represents Barrios' impression of the music of Bach being played on the cathedral organ, whilst the third movement reflects the contrast between the serene atmosphere of the cathedral and the hustle and bustle of the busy street outside. Hemos contado con la presencia del Rvdmo. P. Dom Enrique Trigueros, Abad del monasterio de San Isidro de Dueñas, que presidió la celebración de la Eucaristía; y de la presencia de la Rvdma. Madre Mª del Mar Martínez, Presidenta de la Congregación de Castilla. Ha sido un día de gran gozo para todos, tanto de las monjas de nuestro Monasterio como de las Comunidades de Valladolid y de Ampudia; familiares y fieles, han participado del emotivo evento con alegría.
