Solid Body Electric Ukulele

Here is some primitive luthiery in the form of an Electric Ukulele. Technically this isn't a ukulele because it uses steel strings and a magnetic pickup, but it is uke sized and I play and tune it like one. I made it from yew wood (yew-kulele). Made with hand tools except for a drill, I used a chisel to cut the cavities and neck pocket rather than a router (because I don't own one). I wound the pickup myself on a sewing machine. Here I demonstrate the pickup's sound when played with fingers and with a pick. Video of how I wound the pickup: www.youtube.com

Man, are these old US-made Peavey electrics well made! From the hardware to fretwork - they are just fantastic guitars! This (late 70's?) T-15 is 100% original and in fantastic shape with it's original case. As always - disregard the poor guitar playing and audio quality.

Summer NAMM '10 - Kala Ukuleles Solid Body U-Bass, Hawaiian Koa & Solid Acacia

www.premierguitar.com PG's Brett Petrusek is On Location in Nashville, TN, for the 2010 Summer NAMM Show where he visits the Kala Ukulele booth. In this segment, we check out three of their newest instruments--the Solid Body U-Bass, Hawaiian Koa Soprano, and the Solid Acacia Concert. The Hawaiian Koa Soprano is made with Hand-Selected Hawaiian Koa harvested on the Big Island of Hawaii. Fitted with Maple binding on the top and back, these instruments beg to be played. High quality chrome die-cast tuners will keep your instrument in tune. As with most of our ukulele, active EQ options are available. The Solid Acacia (Mimosa or Shower Tree) Concert are made from tropical trees that are cousins of the Hawaiian Koa tree. They have gorgeous striped patterns of light and dark brown and have a deep colorful tone that match their visual beauty. These solid wood ukes come sized in Soprano, Concert and custom Tenor with a slotted-headstock. They are trimmed with rosewood edge binding and classic herringbone purfling. Custom position markers accent the fretboard. The Soprano has classic friction style tuners. The Concert comes with chrome die-cast tuners with black buttons and the Tenor has vintage geared chrome tuners. The ukes come with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge and an ebony nut and saddle. Kala Solid Body Ubass - sound sample- USA made 5 string

theukulelesite.com The bass frequencies don't show up on phones or laptops (just plug in headphones) This is a sound sample of a new instrument anyone can have fun on. This is the new solid body Kala U-Bass. It is tuned and played like a regular bass but in the size of a baritone ukulele. The acoustic Ubass has been very popular. It is being taken on tour and into the studio. This USA made solid body has a step up with the Mi-Si preamp. I am playing this through an Ampeg amp and along with a Roland drum machine. It is a straight signal but does not showcase all the tones you can get with other amp or bass tone control settings. We also have a 4 string available. Call us at (808)622-8000 with any questions.

James Tyler Variax: Solidbody Electric Sounds | Line 6

Vintage solid body electric models are explored using the new James Tyler Variax®. More sound samples! tylervariax.com Find a dealer near you: line6.com Notes: All sounds were recorded in a direct wet/mic'd dry configuration. The guitar went into a POD® HD500, and afterward the XLR outputs of the HD500 were sent to a pair of homebrew Neve® mic preamps. The preamp outputs were sent into a new AVID HD IO audio interface, and on into Pro Tools® HD. The HD500 was also connected to a DT25™ head over L6 Link™. Only the dry preamp signal was sent to the DT25, which was sent out of an older VHT 4x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion® Vintage 30's, and mic'd on the bottom with an AEA R92 ribbon mic. The mic went into an EMI REDD47 tube mic preamp, then into the AVID HD IO, and then into Pro Tools® HD. No effects were added in post after recording -- all effects came live from the HD500, and were mixed with the mic'd dry cabinet signal. The exception to this occurred in the case of the acoustic guitar samples, where only the direct feed from the HD500 was used, with no amp modeling enabled. Amps used were custom-built on the fly, mixing and matching amp parts using the preamp and tone stack from the HD500, and the variable tube power amp section on the DT25 head.

Gander Guitars The History of the Solid Body Electric Guitar

"All violins are carved from wood, sealed with varnish and play the same notes. So why does a centuries old Stradavarius sound better than all other violins? Because of the expertise and determination of its maker." Hi! My name is Ray Gander and I would like to welcome you to Gander Guitars. I've been sculpting some of the most uniquely designed and beautifully exotic solid body electric guitars in the world. Intonation, sustain, tone, feel of the neck, string action, stainless steel frets, balance, comfort and overall quality are second to none. Are Gander Guitars works of art that happen to make beautiful music, or technically superior musical instruments that happen to be works of art? The distinction is becoming more vague each day as guitar players sing their praises and art galleries are showing more and more interest in displaying them"
