Medical marijuana's future in New Jersey 1 of 2

View video in one part usmjparty.com Posted by John Munson/The Star-Ledger on June 5, 2010 at 05:03 PM This January, New Jersey became the 14th state to pass a medical marijuana law, allowing the use of cannabis to treat certain medical conditions. The Legislature set July as the deadline to launch the program, but Gov. Chris Christie has asked for a six to 12 month delay to plan for the growth and distribution of marijuana. With so little information about how New Jersey's program will work, The Star-Ledger visited two states with very different cannabis laws -- New Mexico, which the New Jersey Legislature looks to as a model of a responsible medical marijuana program, and Colorado, which has lax laws and is seen by some as a state that has lost control. 'Cavalia' mixes big top spectacle with feats of horse riding and training at Meadowlands

With "Cirque du Soleil," Normand Latourelle sought to reinvent the circus. With "Cavalia," a lavish, heart-stopping mix of equestrian feats, acrobatics and live music, Latourelle seeks to re-imagine the horseshow. Over the last six years, "Cavalia," has been performed in some 44 cities around the world, but it makes its debut performance in the tri-state area at the Meadowlands this month, housed in its signature White Big Top. Farmers turn to professionals to cut corn mazes

In the increasingly popular world of "agritainment," a well attended corn maze can be extremely lucrative for a local farm. Fall activities like pumpkin picking and hay rides have become popular family outings, but as competition for "agritourists" heats up, farmers are turning to professional corn maze designers to deliver elaborate mazes, complete with checkpoints and games. Most corn mazes open in September, but the planning starts long before. Designs are drawn up in early Spring, and the mazes are cut in the summer, when the corn is still short. There are only about three or four professional corn maze companies in the country and every summer, professionals travel from state to state cutting mazes. (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger)

Chris Christie responds to NY Sen. Chuck Schumer's criticism on canceling ARC tunnel

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer this morning strongly criticized Gov. Chris Christie for canceling the ARC tunnel project that would have added a new rail tunnel between New Jersey and Manhattan. Schumer, a Democrat, called Christie's choice to kill the so-called access to the region core tunnel a "terrible, terrible decision" and urged the Republican governor to reconsider. But at a press conference in Newark to announce the approval of 23 new charter schools across New Jersey, Christie responded to Schumer's criticism by saying New Jersey would not be able to afford any cost overruns on the project. Christie noted that unless Schumer was able to contribute another $5 billion dollars, he should "mind his manners on the other side of the Hudson River." (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger)

Michael Chertoff Ashkenazi Jew head of Homeland Security

Michael Chertoff Ashkenazi Jew head of Homeland Security Zionist Occupied Government ZOG USA CONTROLLED PRESS CONCEALS CHERTOFF'S ISRAELI ROOTS By Christopher Bollyn Exclusive to American Free Press Michael Chertoff, the new head of the Department of Homeland Security, was approved in a 98-0 vote in the US Senate without the question of his Israeli roots â€" and nationality â€" even being raised. On February 15, 2005, Michael Chertoff, an apparent dual national with Israeli roots, was sworn in as the second Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The new "homeland security czar," who oversees the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, seems to be hiding his own dual-national status â€" with the cooperation of the controlled press. Although the media scrutinized Bernard Kerik, President George W. Bush's first choice to head DHS, and uncovered embarrassing details about his mother, there was no discussion of Chertoff's mother, who played a noteworthy role in the creation of the Zionist state in Palestine. The omission of Chertoff's mother's Zionist past suggests that there is an effort by the media to conceal his ties to Israel and his status as a "de jure" Israeli national, by birth. Under Israeli law, a child born to an Israeli citizen, including children born outside of Israel as first generation out of Israel, is considered an Israeli citizen. The child remains an Israeli national until he or she formally renounces their Israeli nationality ...

New Jersey lawmakers pass medical marijuana law

New Jersey will likely become the 14th state to decriminalize marijuana for medicinal use following votes in the state Assembly and Senate. The Assembly voted 48-14 to pass the "Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana" bill and several hours later, the state Senate voted 25-13 to approve the bill. Gov. Jon Corzine has said he will sign the bill and is expected to do so before leaving office on Jan. 19. The votes were a major victory for medical marijuana advocates, who crowded voting chambers in support of the bill. If Corzine signs the bill, the law is expected to take effect in about six months, meaning the state could see it's first medical marijuana dispensaries open this year. How landfills are built and operated

According to the EPA, the average American produces about four pounds of garbage per day. That's around three quarters of a ton over the course of a year. The trash that doesn't get composted or recycled inevitably ends up in a landfill. At modern facilities such as the Middlesex County landfill in East Brunswick, massive underground liner systems are built to capture leachate to help eliminate the potential impact to the environment. Methane gas which is produced during the decomposition of trash, is captured and reused to create electricity at the County's Wastewater Treatment Plant. (Video by Andre Malok / The Star-Ledger)
