Booker T & The MGs - Boot-Leg

8/14 - A few years ago a portable jukebox was discovered which belonged to John Lennon in the 1960s. The jukebox conntained a tracklist of 40 records - soul, R&B and Rock 'n' Roll - written in Lennon's own handwriting. These are the songs which shaped his musical education and they reveal many of the original sources of inspiration for his later songwriting.
Otis Redding - First Take - Sitting AT The Dock Of The Bay

This is the first take of Otis Redding singing "(Sitting AT The) Dock Of The Bay" with Steve Cropper, who co-wrote it, playing guitar and doing the seagulls and the whistling. There is a nice piece at the end where Otis says that Steve "isn't going to make it as a whistler".

Steve Cropper, Donald Duck Dunn final US performance TIME IS TIGHT Marshall, TX

The great Booker T & The MG's / Stax/ Blues Brothers bass player Donald "Duck" Dunn died yesterday while on tour in Japan. Can't believe we got to see him in Marshall, Texas just two weeks ago. Davis Entertainment brought him and his lifelong friend and musical soulmate, the great Steve Cropper, here for a fundraiser at the Davis Ranch. Amazing night. Eddie "Knock on Wood" Floyd was here singing! (Eddie's in another video - we will post that soon.) This one is the gorgeous instrumental, TIME IS TIGHT. Steve Cropper: guitar. Duck Dunn: Bass. Lester Snell: Organ. Steve Potts: Drums. Remarkable performance. Love how Duck enjoys himself toward the end. Love the kinship with him and Steve. RIP Duck Dunn. Condolences to your family and friends. Condolences and gratitude to Steve Cropper. Condolences and gratitude to Jim and Winnie Davis. Video by Jack Canson. Jack told Duck Dunn that night that he - Duck Dunn - and Steve Cropper and the whole Booker T/Stax crew had "opened the eyes and ears of a generation of white Southerners." Amen. Their music, their influence and their love will live forever. boogiewoogiemarshall.com
