Here's the Youth Ministry "Flash Mob" from the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (NCCYM) held in New Orleans in December 2010. It features some of the biggest and brightest Catholic youth ministry speakers, worship leaders, and musicians...as well as 4 Canadians from the Archdiocese of Vancouver. :p It technically wasn't a true "flash mob" but it was effective nonetheless: we performed it to promote the big Youth Ministry Extravaganza variety show that evening (featuring many of the dancers). Lincolnshire has one of the most vulnerable coastlines to coastal flooding in the country. East Lindsey District Council is working with the Pathfinder partnership to raise awareness of the risks of flooding and to promote effective and informed actions and responses in the unlikely event that flooding should occur. The partners are constantly seeking new and imaginative ways of engaging with local communities. In 2011, East Lindsey District Council engaged Magnetic Events and ADEPT (artists Shanaz Gulzar and Steve Manthorp) to devise a project that would capture the imaginations of Mablethorpe residents, especially young people. The artists came up with the idea of a flash mob event. A flash mob is a group of people who gather unannounced in a public place, put on a brief and unusual and performance for a brief time, then disperse as quickly as they arrived. The organisers worked with students and staff from Tennyson High School to devise a performance in which participants used towels and old clothing and toys to create a memorable event that would raise awareness of the issue of coastal flooding. On Tuesday 19th July, 350 volunteers came together on Mablethorpe High Street, performed 'Flash Flood' to surprised residents and holidaymakers and dispersed, leaving 'flotsam' behind. Cameras were there to record the event.

I was leaving Max Brenner's with my Twitter friend @Nukirk when we saw a group of people gathered in front of Shoemania on the corner of Broadway and 14th. As we approached, it appeared that people were looking at the bags of trash on the curb. Some bags had been opened and people were looking through the trash for shoes. There were about 30 people separating empty boxes, loose paper and empty soda cups from shoes. There were murmurs that there were only left shoes but that was quickly squashed when someone yelled, "I found a pair!". People moved in quickly, opening up new bags and pouring the contents onto the sidewalk. A young couple had found 4 pairs of mens shoes and had them lined up near Storemania's closed doors. It stars Walter Huston as Lincoln and Una Merkel, in her first talking role, as Ann Rutledge. The script was co-written by Stephen Vincent Benét, author of the Civil War prose poem John Brown's Body. This was the first of only two sound films made by Griffith. The film was not a hit at the time, but in recent years it has come to be regarded as one of the definitive films on Lincoln. The first act of the film covers Lincoln's early life as a storekeeper and rail-splitter in New Salem and his early romance with Ann Rutledge, and his early years as a lawyer and his courtship and marriage to Mary Todd in Springfield.
