Ignis Fatuu - 12 Stille Wasser

Album: Neue Ufer Jahr: 2011 Genre: Mittelalter-Rock Label: Trollzorn English translation 12 Silent Waters Doors and windows are made of glass But I see not into you Your inner self seems to be locked Your soul is like a stone Meter thick walls keep Lock yourself in your body And once your big mouth shut Seems like metal to be welded Secretly, silently He pulls them into his spell Naked and without remorse - What you've done to her? Silent water Do not soft fire Silent waters And a heart breaks Silent waters Silent waters run so deep Never in my dreams I'd guess To what outrage you are ready Must be a man obsessed What curse you incorporated Do you see her rigid body Do you see her cold stare Look at the fear in her eyes Her laugh never returns Once we were like brothers Had spent every day for two Built huts in the woods Hunted cattle into the night Like cattle You have fleeced Your desire - what a kick All dignity taken from her For this moment

Beyond Silence ( Jenseits der Stille )

Lara's parents are deaf and she is responsible for interpreting and helping them interact with the hearing world. On Christmas Day, her aunt Clarissa, a music-lover, gives her a clarinet, and Lara begins to discover the world of music, which is completely unknown to her parents. She becomes a talented clarinetist, and, when she is 18 years old, she wants to enroll at the Berlin conservatoire. Her desire to attend the conservatoire conflicts with her father's dependence on her and his grief after his wife's death in an accident. The movie does a great job of portraying the experiences of a hearing child of deaf parents, compared to the more frequent portrayal of stories with parents whose child turns out to be deaf. Set in a small town, the film also shows the difficulties Lara's parents have in communicating with anyone else as no one else signs, and being in a small town, they cannot find a good interpreter. It's an interesting parallel to draw with children of immigrants who often have to serve as interpreters for their parents, even in serious situations (see Spanglish_(film)). Furthermore, the movie shows how technology has made vast improvements for the hearing-impaired with subtitles on TV and movies. Namely, Beyond Silence shows Lara signing the dialogue of a romantic movie for her mother because closed captioning is not yet available where they live. P. Domingo, Sissel, and C. Aznavour - Stille Nacht

This, in my opinion, is the best performance of Silent Night I have ever witnessed live in my life. Charles Aznavour, Sissel Kyrkjebø, and Plácido Domingo sing together the timeless Christmas carol "Stille Nacht." The orchestration is unparalleled! Great conducting on the part of maestro Šutej. With the Vienna Symphony under the direction of maestro Vjekoslav Šutej and the Vienna Opera Children's Choir.

Schumann, Liederkreis, op. 39, #4, Die Stille, Ameling/Demus

Die Stille, the fourth song from Robert Schumann's Eichendorff-Liederkreis (op 39) performed by Elly Ameling, soprano with Jörg Demus on piano. This is a transfer from vinyl, since, as far as I can tell, it hasn't been released on CD, so it's a bit noisy. It's sad that more of her recordings aren't available digitally now. This recording dates from about 1980. Text and translation available here: www.recmusic.org

Die Stille der Unschuld I

Der Maler Gottfried Helnwein. Helnwein studied at the University of Visual Art in Vienna (Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Wien). He was awarded the Master-class prize (Meisterschulpreis) of the University of Visual Art, Vienna, the Kardinal-König prize and the Theodor-Körner prize. He has worked as a painter, draftsman, photographer, muralist, sculptor, installation and performance artist, using a wide variety of techniques and media. His early work consists mainly of hyper-realistic watercolors, depicting wounded children, as well as performances -- often with children -- in public spaces. Helnwein is concerned primarily with psychological and sociological anxiety, historical issues and political topics. As a result of this, his work is often considered provocative and controversial. Viennese-born Helnwein is part of a tradition going back to the 18th century, to which Messerschmidt's grimacing sculptures belong. One sees, too, the common ground of his works with those of Hermann Nitsch and Rudolf Schwarzkogler, two other Viennese, who display their own bodies in the frame of reference of injury, pain, and death. One can also see this fascination for body language goes back to the expressive gesture in the work of Egon Schiele.
