What if he were muslim? Colin Powell on Muslim Americans.

Colin Powell on Meet the Press, Sunday October 19, 2008. After making an endorsement for democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Former Secretary of State Colin Powell condemns his Republican Party and the tone of the current election for the Anti-Muslim bigotry. Powell denounced the inaccurate suggestions by some Republicans that Obama is a Muslim, and that - by implication - there was something wrong with a Muslim running for the US presidency. "It is permitted to be said such things as, 'Well you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim.'" Well the correct answer is he's not a Muslim. He's a Christian and he's always has been a Christian. But the really right answer is: what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer is no, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some 7 year old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be President?... This is not the way we should be doing it in America. I feel strongly about his particular point because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who were serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington cemetery. And she had her head on the headstone of her son's grave. And as the picture focused in you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards: Purple Heart, Bronze Star. Showed that he died in Iraq. Gave his date of birth, death of death. He was 20 years old. And ...

Chicken pot pie recipe - How to make chicken pot pie

www.howdini.com It's our number one favorite comfort food, but we admit we used to buy it frozen. No more, now that we've seen how easy it is to make chicken pot pie, with a little help from our friend, Pillsbury's Lauren Chattman. Recipe: How to make easy chicken pot pie 1. Heat oven to 425°F. Fit pie crust into 9-inch glass pie plate. 2. In 2-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion; cook and stir 2 minutes or until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until well blended. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly. 3. Gradually stir in chicken broth and milk, cooking and stirring until bubbly and thickened. Stir in chicken and thawed mixed vegetables. Remove from heat. Spoon chicken mixture into crust-lined pie plate. 4. Top with second crust; seal edge and flute. Cut slits in several places in top crust. 5. Goodbye, Lokomotiv! Video of heartbreaking farewell ceremony on ice

A heart-stirring requiem mass has taken place at the Minsk ice hockey arena, where this evening local side Dynamo were supposed to take on Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, the team which tragically died in Wednesday's plane crash. All tickets for the game had been sold long before the tragedy. Soon after the sad news spread worldwide, the game's organizers decided to arrange a mass at the arena, honoring the legacy of the team. Not a single ticket had been returned as the ceremony was held in the packed arena. Each spectator brought flowers. All the Belarusian leadership, including President Aleksandr Lukashenko, were present at the event. Never was the arena that silent as 37 huge portraits of the players and staff were placed on the ice. A requiem mass was performed by an orchestra, while portraits of the departed Yaroslavl friends and icons appeared on the scoreboard. Each picture was met with a storm of applause, after which the Dynamo players scored a puck each in their own net. Similar ceremonies were held on Thursday evening in a dozen Russian and CIS cities. War Art 30: Cavalry Charge

Is anything more stirring than a cavalry charge? Bad guys have us surrounded, Napoleon bringing in his infantry, Indians circling the wagons, and just when things look bleakest, we hear the ringing bugle note over the horizon. Just in the nick of time! Saved by the cavalry. Clash of swords. Slap of leather. Thundering hoofbeats. And a hearty, "Hiyo Sil----" Hmmm. No, that's another guy. This is just one good cavalry charge after another, from primitive times to the charge of the light brigade. Cavalry was an effective weapon right up to the First World War, when trenches and machine guns spelled an end to old-fashioned cavalry charges. Even so, cavalry units lasted until World War II, by which time they had become mechanized. If you want to see a cavalry charge these days, you'll have to watch tanks, listen to the clatter of treads, and inhale the stink of gasoline. For music we have two pieces -- a country/folk salute called "I Want To Be In The Cavalry," performed by the Corb Lund Band, followed by the traditional "Gary Owen," the signature anthem of George Armstrong Custer and his Seventh Cavalry.
Betty's Party Peanut Brittle

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Party Peanut Brittle. Everyone loves peanut brittle, and it is a perfect pick-up food at a party. Ingredients: 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup light corn syrup pinch of salt 1 cup dry-roasted peanuts 2 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons vanilla extract cooking oil spray In a medium-sized heavy pot, stir together 1 cup sugar, ½ cup light corn syrup, and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil, without stirring, 5 minutes (310 degrees on a candy thermometer). Add 1 cup dry-roasted peanuts. Stir. Cook 2 or 3 more minutes (280 degrees on a candy thermometer). Mixture will be golden brown. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons butter, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Immediately, pour mixture into a 15-inch by 10-inch jellyroll pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil spray. Spread mixture with the back of a wooden spoon until of desired thickness and even. Let cool 5 minutes or until hardened. Break into pieces, using a large spoon. Place on serving dish, or store in an airtight container. The taste of this Party Peanut Brittle is outrageously good! You may want to use it at your Super Bowl Party as a sweet snack! I hope you love it! --Betty

5 Minute Chocolate Fudge

1 2/3 cups granulated sugar 2/3 cups Evaporated Milk 2 tbsp butter 2 cups EACH miniature marshmallows and chocolate chips 1 tsp vanilla Line an 8"x8" square baking pan with waxed paper or aluminum foil set aside Combine sugar, evaporated milk and butter in a saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly (or just about). Boil 4 minutes. Remove from heat Stir in marshmallows and chocolate chips and stir until melted and combined, add vanilla and stir. Pour into prepared pan, chill until set and cut into squares. This may take 1-2 hours to chill completely depending on the temperature of your refrigerator. You can add 1/2 cup of nuts to the melted chocolate mixture if desired. This is a very soft fudge at room temperature and needs to be kept refrigerated You can't use sweetened condensed milk. Some people have told me in the comments that regular milk does work and others have said that it doesn't Regular milk may be too thin for this recipe, a substitute for this might be heavy cream, but I've never tried it. If you can't find evaporated milk, you are probably better off looking for another fudge recipe, there are many out there, some of which are more than likely in the related videos on the right of your screen.
