Street Art: Joshua Allen Harris' Inflatable Bag Monsters

Call us boring and simple-minded, but before we saw the work of street artist Joshua Allen Harris we never once considered the artistic possibilities of subway exhaust. Using only tape and garbage bags, Harris creates giant inflatable animals that become animated when fastened to a sidewalk grate. Steven Psyllos caught up with Harris recently to discuss his older works (including a bear and a giraffe) and unveil a new beast that looks not unlike the Cloverfield monster. Video by Jonah Green

Eine Film - Street Artist Ben Eine Documentary

The doc was filmed over a weekend (plus a Friday night before and some neatening up on the Monday). Ben was painting 2 walls - one being PRO PRO PRO on Ebor Street in East London - the other being CALCULATE on Hollywell Lane, also in East London. PRO PRO PRO was on the side of ad agency Mother London. A week or so earlier Ben had painted ANTI ANTI ANTI on the opposite wall at the request of graphic design guru Neville Brody (en.wikipedia.org in conjunction with the Anti Design Festival. Mother loved the work and asked that he do something on their wall. The CALCULATE wall is one that Ben has previously and famously painted with 'VANDALISM' (www.artofthestate.co.uk This time he had been invited to paint the wall my Moniker Art Fair (www.monikerartfair.com as he was exhibiting at their exhibition the following week. The street is a space where art thrives, and a place where artists can shape the public aesthetic. Olek, a sculptor whose medium is crochet, and Swoon, a mixed media artist, disrupt daily life with work that creates wonder, emotion, and humor. Equally at home in museums and galleries, both artists also create installations that challenge the formats of traditional art spaces. Space Invader- Binary Code Street Art- Part 1

One of our favorite street artists, Invader, came to LA from France recently and took a minute to explain his new Binary Code street art. This new media utilizes hi-tech Binary Code technology combined with his trademark lo-tech ceramic tile work as seen in urban centers all around the world. This style of artwork is among the most progressive and conceptually interesting in the world. Invader has definitely continued to take it to the next level with this latest development. No doubt that if you pay attention to street art, you&rsquo;ve heard of this artist. He&rsquo;s been working in the streets of France for many years, and his work is among the most recognizable, if not completely understood. Now, with a simple IPhone Application called, I-Matrix, (now known as BeeTagg) you can translate the hidden meanings behind his street-art. Come back and visit us for Part 2 in a couple days...

Street Art - Short Graffiti Documentary feat Banksy - Part 1

The term Street Art has evolved to define the more visual and engaging aspects of urban art, as opposed to simply text-based graffiti and tagging. This film follows such notorious cult figures as: Blek Le Rat, Nano 4814, Nuria, Sweet Toof, NoNose, and Eine, as they work upon the pavements of Paris Londonand Madrid During the film we pursue these characters as they create new pieces and discuss the varying approaches to Street Art in these three diverse cities. We also meet some of the artists taking part in the first ever Street Art exhibition at Tate Modern, and explore the rapidly expanding commercial market that's turning street artists into big earners at the auction houses. What does this newfound profitable aspect mean for this formerly underground and anti-establishment scene?

Street Artist Olek Hits Astor Place in New York City

Hey ya'll, After working with Olek on a PBS Off Book episode, she asked me if I would shoot an upcoming project. Once she told me what it was, I said sure! Then she told me she would be doing the work at 4:30am. :) It's 8:52am right now in New York as I write this, and I shot the video from 4:30am to around 4:50am. Rapid turnaround, early and often. I hope you enjoy seeing Olek and her crew at work, and if you know New York, you'll get a kick out of seeing the "Astor Place Cube" all dressed up. Oh, and if you look closely, you'll see that the sentence crocheted onto the covering is: "I'm still proud of what I do for a living". -Eric Brown Music: EncoreWat by VLOOPER (vlooper.bandcamp.com

Diablo III Street Art Unveiled

As part of Blizzard Entertainment's presence at gamescom 2011, artist Manfred Stader has created a bespoke piece of Diablo III street art. The image depicts Diablo accompanied by demons bursting forth from the very streets of Cologne. What's unique about the image, aside from the content, is that it has been designed to be viewed in full 3D perspective. As a result, it produces an unnerving glimpse into The Burning Hells themselves. The artist began production of this very special piece on Monday August 15, situated at Hahnentorburg Rudolfplatz in central Cologne. Don't forget we have also organised a competition based on your photographs of this artwork -- you can find details about that here : eu.blizzard.com

3 Way Street Artist video tracks scary traffic Funny!!

3 Way Street Artist video tracks scary traffic Funny!! Warning: The video below may cause you never to want to leave your house again. A School of Visual Arts thesis project by artist Ron Gabriel, named "3-Way Street," tracks a camera at the Manhattan intersection of 28th Street and Park Avenue. The New York mayhem known as street traffic ensues. The video of traffic behaving badly has gone viral on the Web. No surprise: What you see is pretty hair-raising. As the artist puts it on his website, the point of the study is to show the "interconnected role in improving the safety and usability of our streets." Mission very much accomplished. With the master student's helpful graphics added to the clips, it's almost like watching the video game Frogger: Pedestrians dodge bikes, run into oncoming traffic, and barely escape with their lives. An 18-wheeler makes a tight U-turn. Cars jump lights. Pedestrians jaywalk. Bikes do everything but follow the rules of the road. Riding on the sidewalk? Check. Riding on the wrong side of the road? Check. Nearly colliding with people on foot? Check. Check. Check. Aside from the arresting visuals, the stats from the artist are scary: This is just one intersection of 12370 in the city. And 74 percent of the city's accidents that kill or seriously injure three to four people a day usually happen at an intersection, which causes collisions of bikes, cars, and people. You can watch the video below. And please be careful out there.

Shepard Fairey, "OBEY" Street Artist and Designer

This segment profiles Shepard Fairey, a contemporary artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who emerged from the skateboarding scene. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, calls him one of today's best known and most influential street artists. He first became known for his "André the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign. His work became more widely known in 2008 for his Barack Obama "HOPE" poster. His work is included in the collections at The Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Fairey became obsessed with art in 1984 at the age of 14. At that time he started to place his drawings on skateboards and T-shirts. In 1992, Fairey graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Arts in illustration. In addition to his successful graphic design career, Fairey also DJ's at many clubs. Fairey sits on the advisory board of Reaching to Embrace the Arts, a not-for-profit organization that provides art supplies to disadvantaged schools and students. Fairey created the "André the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign in 1989, while attending the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). This later evolved into the "Obey Giant" campaign, which has grown via an international network of collaborators replicating Fairey's original designs. His "Obey" Campaign draws from the John Carpenter movie "They Live" which starred pro wrestler Roddy Piper, taking a number of its <b>...</b>

The Voice of the Street - Interactive street art

We have created a platform that enables street artists to get in contact with the observers of their work, simple and anonymous -- by using cellphones. On the website, the artists receive a personalized QR-Code with which he can identify his work. The code is connected to a voicemail where the artist has left a message for the observer. As soon as the observer captures the code with his cellphone camera, he can listen to the voice message of the artist and also answer to it. Furthermore, you can look at the exact position of the artwork on Google Maps and look at other observer reactions. www.thevoiceofthestreet.com Thanks for watching
