www.cbc.ca Larry King is a broadcasting institution. Tens of thousands of interviews, more than half a century on the air. The famous and the infamous, the scandal-plagued and the powerful - they've all told their stories to Larry. As a kid, Larry dreamed of working in radio, but didn't have the grades to go to college. So, he hoofed it to Miami at 22 and landed a gig doing odd-jobs at a small radio station. When an announcer walked off the job, Larry ended up on-air for the first time. That was May 1st, 1957. Over the next decade, he built his reputation - interviewing the likes of Jackie Gleason, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King. But Larry was a gambler and a big spender and in the early 70's he plead no contest to passing bad cheques. But Laryy bounced back - eventually landing a national late night radio call-in show. That led to his move to TV and the launch of 'Larry King Live' in 1985. The show was a hit and Larry became one of CNN's first stars. But it hasn't always been easy - in '87, he suffered a life-changing heart attack and over the years he's been married seven times to six women - with kids ranging in age from 8 to 50. He tells the whole story in his new autobiography 'My Remarkable Journey.'

www.cbc.ca Gordon Ramsay started his professional life with the Glasgow Rangers, in the Scottish premier soccer league. Kitchens and cooking weren't even on his radar until a knee injury ended his career. After making the switch from soccer to fine dining, he worked his way up in British and French restaurants. By 26, he was running his own kitchen and around that time, Britain's Channel 4 produced a documentary on Gordon called 'Boiling Point.' That opened the door to a TV career, that started with 'Kitchen Nightmares.' Then, there was 'Hell's Kitchen' and now his latest - 'The F-Word.' Along the way, Gordon built an empire. He became a multi-millionaire, with dozens of restaurants around the world and he's written more than 10 books. His most recent is called 'Gordon Ramsay's Healthy Appetite.'

www.cbc.ca Not a lot of actors get their first gig on one of the hottest shows in TV history: but Bradley Cooper did. In 1999, he landed a gig on 'Sex in the City.' A couple of years later, he got a larger role - perhaps the one he's best known for, 'Will Tippin', on the show 'Alias.' He also hit the big screen in 'Wedding Crashers.' More recently, Bradley showed off his comedic talent in 'Yes Man' with Jim Carrey. He also played a guy who cheats on his wife in this year's 'He's Just Not That Into You.' Now, he's the star of a new film - 'The Hangover.'

www.cbc.ca David Chilton is the author of 'The Wealthy Barber.' It came out in 1989 and became one of the biggest books in Canadian history, selling more that two million copies. Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Dave was fascinated with business and economics from a young age. After getting a degree in finance and working as a stockbroker for a couple of years, he decided to write a book on financial planning. The main character - 'The Wealthy Barber' - teaches his customers how to get rich slowly and stay that way. The basic idea - spend less than you make. With that message, Dave's become a popular public speaker. And he's kept writing, changing his focus from finance to food. He's helped publish two low-fat cookbooks 'Looneyspoons' and 'Eat, Shrink & Be Merry', both of which were national bestsellers.

Jack Layton, leader of the NDP party, joins The Jack Layton got into federal politics in 2003, when he was elected leader of the NDP. And while he was new to Ottawa, Layton wasn't a political rookie, he had already cut his teeth as a city councillor for nearly 20 years. He was a voice on the left of local Toronto politics who worked in the fight against AIDS, opposed Toronto's bid for the 96' Olympics and helped create the White Ribbon Campaign to stop violence against women. As leader of the NDP in Ottawa he's run in two federal elections and played a big role in the House of Commons. But Layton wants more - he wants to be Prime Minister.

www.cbc.ca 11 Oscars - including best picture and best director. So, how did James get here. Well, he grew up in a small Ontario town - Chippawa. And from a young age, he was obviously talented. When he was 15, he saw Stanley Kubrick's film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. And James knew he wanted to make movies. Eventually, he went to college... Dropped out... And bounced around between jobs How did a small town kid from Chippawa, Ontario go on to dominate Hollywood and win 11 Oscars in the process? Well, for James Cameron it started in 1981 - when he made his directorial debut, with 'Pirahna Two: The Spawning.' and if you're wondering, yes - it's bad as it sounds. From there, he wrote the screenplay for 'Rambo: First Blood Part Two' and subsequently directed 'The Terminator'. Along the way, James wrote and directed another classic - 'Aliens,' with Sigourney Weaver. Plus, there was 'The Abyss', 'True Lies' and every 'Terminator' sequel including the upcoming 'Terminator Salvation.' Since the late 90's, James has put off Hollywood films to make documentaries. But now, he's got another huge feature in the works... 'Avatar' - a computer generated 3D epic due to be released late next year.

www.cbc.ca Born in Pickering, Ontario, he started his career with the Detroit Red Wings. The next season, he was traded to the LA Kings, and built a reputation as a tough guy to play against and someone who speaks his mind. Some people loved his style. Others? Not so much. Sean got hit with the label "Most Hated Man in the NHL." Fast-forward to 2007, Sean went to the New York Rangers and established himself as a valuable player, not just a shit disturber. But in last season's playoffs Sean stirred things up again - screening New Jersey's Martin Brodeur like it had never been done before. The NHL wasn't amused and had to create a new rule to stop it. Off the ice, Sean is a character too. He loves the Hollywood life, he's dated celebrities and spent this past summer as an intern at Vogue. www.cbc.ca At 66, you'd think Pat Quinn might be ready for retirement, but no, he wants to get back behind an NHL bench. So, what's his story? Well, in 1968, he made the NHL - joining the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now, as far as his playing days go, Pat is probably best remembered for a huge hit on Bobby Orr in the '69 playoffs. He played nine years in the NHL but his career ended when he fell off a skateboard and shattered his leg. So in 1977, Pat got a gig as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers. Two years later, he was head coach and led the Flyers to the Stanley Cup finals. From there, he coached the LA Kings, picked up a law degree and then, went to Vancouver to become President, GM and coach of the Canucks. In '94, he went to the finals again but the Canucks lost to the New York Rangers. Next, Pat went to Toronto and spent 7 seasons coaching the Leafs. He left in 2006 and was asked to coach our juniors this past year - leading the team to its 5th straight gold medal.

www.cbc.ca Phil Esposito, undoubtedly one of hockey's all-time greats and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He's best known for grabbing rebounds and scoring goals - a lot of 'em. Until Gretzky came along he held the NHL record for most goals in one season with 76. Phil started his career with Chicago in the early '60s but the Blackhawks traded him to Boston in 1967. Big mistake. The Bruins already had a certain Mr. Bobby Orr and when Phil joined the team he kept on scoring, helping them to win the holy grail - twice. Phil was also a big part of Team Canada's win over Russia, in the 1972 'Summit Series', one of the most important sporting victories in Canadian history. Espo was team captain, he set up that winning goal and led the team in scoring. True to his outspoken nature, he also famously called out Canadian fans for booing their own players. In 1981, Phil retired from playing and got into coaching and managing. As GM of the New York Rangers, he was nicknamed 'Trader Phil' and in the early '90s founded the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning. These days Phil's got a daily XM satellite radio show about hockey and has appeared in a few TV shows, most recently playing himself on 'Rent-A-Goalie'.

www.cbc.ca Joshua Jackson has managed to pull off what a lot of actors don't. He went from being a teen idol, to a serious actor working with some of Hollywood's biggest stars. Joshua got his start at age 9, when he landed the role of 'Charlie' in that Emilio Estevez classic "Mighty Ducks." That film was a hit and he went on to star in the sequels. By 1998, they knew who he was down in Hollywood so he landed the 'Dawson's Creek' gig and for six seasons, he was pretty much every teenage girls' "imaginary" boyfriend. Along the way he starred in movies like "Scream 2" and "Skulls." He played a gay teenager in "Cruel Intentions" along with the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar. When Dawson's Creek ended in 2002 Josh went on to look for "more mature" films. There was "I Love Your Work" alongside Giovanni Ribisi and Christina Ricci. 'Aurora Borealis' with Donald Sutherland and Juliette Lewis and 'Bobby' with Anthony Hopkins and Helen Hunt. Last year, Joshua returned to TV as Peter Bishop, in the series "Fringe." He also came back to Canada to star in the road movie "One Week" - a film about a young man's motorcycle trip from Toronto to Vancouver.

Jay landed the role of an obsessed Led Zeppelin fan in the film 'Almost Famous.' By then, Jay says he was pretty much done with acting, and was headed to film school, until he landed a role on Judd Apatow's latest TV series at the time - 'Undeclared.' www.cbc.ca How did a bunch of home-schooled boys from Tennessee go on to sell out stadiums around the world? Well, Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill are brothers and along with their first cousin Matthew they are 'Kings Of Leon.' The brothers grew up driving across the south with their dad - a Pentecostal preacher. They didn't really have a home, they lived on the road, going from one church service to the next, sleeping in hotels, churches, even their car. They didn't listen to rock music, or watch TV. But just over ten years ago, everything changed. Their dad left the church and divorced his wife. So, the boys started to get into music, formed a band and by 2002, 'Kings of Leon' had interest from nine labels. After a bidding war, the guys released their debut EP in 2003. Five years of touring and four records latern'Kings of Leon' sells out arenas now, in under an hour. They're huge in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. And are starting to hit it big in the US. They've opened for U2, Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam. 'Rolling Stone' magazine recently asked "How good can these guys get?"nTheir new album is called 'Only By The Night.' It debuted in the top 5 in Canada, with the hit single 'Sex on Fire.'

www.cbc.ca That's when the world really took notice of Adrien, but he'd already been making movies for more than a decade. Growing up in Queens, New York, Adrien was encouraged by his parents to act so as to keep out of trouble. He got his first TV acting role at 15 and five years later, he hit the big screen in the Depression-era drama 'King of the Hill.' Then, in 1998, Adrien's break-out role - at least that's what he thought. Adrien got cast as 'Corporal Fife' in a little war flick called 'The Thin Red Line.' But when he went to the premiere, he found most of his scenes had been left on the editing room floor. He's certainly made up for it since though. Adrien rocked as a bisexual punk kid-slash-murder suspect in 'Summer of Sam' and played a Jewish boy coming of age in the 50's flick 'Liberty Heights.' Then came the role that got Adrien that pretty little gold statue - 'The Pianist.' Since then, Adrien's played the village idiot in 'The Village', a love struck screenwriter in 'King Kong' and one of three dysfunctional brothers on a journey across India in 'The Darjeeling Limited.' www.cbc.ca For traditional hockey fans, Gary Bettman isn't exactly 'Mr. Popularity.' In 1993, he became NHL commissioner with a mandate to grow the game. So, how's he done? Well, under Bettman, the NHL has added six teams - most of them in the southern United States, while both Quebec and Winnipeg moved south. When Bettman took over, the league's revenue was 400 million dollars a year. Now, it's more than two billion. But some of those US teams are struggling, especially Nashville and Phoenix - which is said to be in real trouble. There was also the lockout that shut down the entire '04-05 season. Bettman has also had to deal with a few hits to the NHL's image. There was the "Bertuzzi Moore" incident, Sean Avery's comments and most recently - with the death of Don Sanderson in a senior league game, there are questions about whether the NHL should ban fighting.

In fact, Eckhart says, your mind is your worst enemy. It overtakes the real you and creates thoughts that make you miserable. So if you want to achieve peace, you've got to disassociate yourself from your mind. The key ? Live in the present. Eckhart sums it all up in his book 'The Power of Now.' He wrote it in Vancouver, where he now lives. The book came out in 1997 and has sold more than five million copies, thanks, in large part, to an on-air plug from Oprah.
