Here's a short film I made for uni. It's 8 minutes long so don't watch it if you don't want to. You'll like how it ends, though. More sketches and stuff on the way soon! (just waiting on a new camera) FUN FACTS: 1) We used clip mics for this film, can you guess where they were? 2) One shot in this cost me about £100 to make, you can probably guess which one. 3) We did about 5 takes of the 'sandwich toss' shot. Twice it landed in the Nutella, once in the sink and another time in a saucepan.

It's about an underground diamond operation with the perfect heist plan to obtain a shipment of uncut raw diamonds worth millions of dollars from the Angolan's. "SMILE is an impressive 2005 student film by Yuval Markovich and Noam Abta produced at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem. Horror films are all too rare in animation, and this short does a solid job of building the tension and creating a mood of paranoia and uncertainty. Technically, it looks like the film was shot in live-action, with over sized CG heads placed on the live bodies. Its partially improvised vocal performances by Karin Anger and Robert May helped the short win twenty-five awards, including the Grand Prize at the New Orleans Film Festival. Robert and Karin were reunited in 2006 for a special audio commentary on the BITTER FILMS: VOLUME ONE DVD anthology. The DVD also features an animatic of very funny deleted and unused improvised dialogues from the original 1996 recording sessions -- long enough to make the short film all over again -- as well as hours of extra materials from Don's other films. Part of a collection of student films made at my highschool. I was unfortunate enough to get stuck sitting next to our school's principal during this screening. She seemed genuinely shocked none of the students made videos about school spirit or how great our town was, but this video in particular bothered her. She mumbled under her breath the entire time and walked out halfway through. Not surprisingly, this was the first and last student film showcase; the film class was forced over to a student news broadcast preapproved by her. Yippie.

It Won Best Film (Runner Up), Best Sound, and awarded a prize package for being one of the 12 National finalists out of 70 entries. Created by Year 13 students from Whangarei Boys' High School, Shot using a Sony CX550 and edited on Adobe Premiere.
