Super Mario Bros. - 600 points, no deaths
Success! Here I achieve the (almost) lowest score possible in Super Mario Bros. for the NES. No save states or slowdown was used, but I did increase the frame skip by quite a bit when waiting at the flag poles. Since you probably don't want to watch that, I cut out almost 8 minutes of video where I'm just running out the clock. I pull off a couple interesting tricks and glitches to make this work. In 4-2, I backwards jump into a few obstacles to scroll the screen without Mario to trick the pipe into taking me to the vine's usual location. In 8-1, I have to perform a pretty precise jump off a goomba to avoid some coins. Also, getting under the first set of 2 coins towards the end of this level takes a very careful jump, and always makes me nervous. In 8-4, I scroll the screen to just the right position to allow me to use some blocks as platforms. No wall jumps are required in this run at all. :) I show off a bit at the start, but after 8-1 I start to take my time. 8-3 is really a tough level. I took a chance to run and jump past a couple hammer bros. towards the end, but the final 2 I took slow. These are close together, so getting by them the careful way proves to be quite challenging. As you can see, there were a lot of hammers to dodge there. Anyway, enjoy!

Super Mario Bros Theme Song Acapella Multitrack
Multitrack of "Platforms a Plenty" from Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube (the acapella Mario theme song in the warp/secret levels) This is my first time trying something like this, and despite a couple spots that aren't great, I'm happy with how it turned out. I'm a tenor, so although I was able to hit the high G5 (sitting just above the treble clef) that pops up a couple times, I had to cheat and use some digital magic to get down to the low C2 (a couple lines below the bass cleff). Filmed against my bedroom wall (which has Blik Mario decals on it) with my Canon point and shoot digital camera balanced on my bed (I broke my tripod earlier this year). Based on a MIDI (www.midishrine.com which I learned the parts from.

Lua experiments - Super Mario Bros. 3 Rainbow Riding
A new version (0.2) is out which allows you to hide the click box and turn off auto move for some 2-player fun (check the configurable vars section of the lua file). Get it at morphcat.de You will need FCEUX to play this script, download the latest release at fceux.com It turns Mario into a Lemming by disabling controller input and making him run in one direction until he hits an obstacle. Use your mouse to ward off enemies and safely lead him to the exit. If you've played Kirby's Canvas Curse on the ds this will look very familiar. As you can see, there's still a lot to fix, the video shows off a few devastating bugs. Recorded at 25% speed.

Super Mario Bros. 2 Lost Levels
Here is a really tough game for the Famicom that never came to America. The All-Stars version with the updated graphics and such just didn't feel classic for me so I did a run of the original. If you are one of those who don't like to be spoiled before watching the video (like me) read below after you've finished watching. *Run Spoilers* 1-1: Done well, fast as I could pretty much get it. Nothing I would change. 1-2: after you go into the first "warp pipe" and land next to the 3 question blocks and jump onto the first pipe, you can make the jump from there tot he floating platform but it has to be perfect and I missed it. Other then that, I am fine with this stage. 4-1: Another near flawless stage. Nothing really needs to be changed 4-2: Also done really well. The time jumps on the stairs and such and the jump off the turtle at the end went perfectly 4-3: Really close call on the second bullet bill, I thought I was dead for sure but he bounced off, a relief. I could the jump a bit better just before the first bullet bill but I was making sure I didn't get hit. Everything else seemed to be fine. 4-4: I did exceptionally well on here then I usually do. The jump somtimes got me, also I sometimes ran into bowser or a miss timed jump on the goomba ect. You name it, it probably happend to be on that damn stage. Wouldn't change anything except maybe beating bowser a hair faster. *Small pause between 4-4 and 5-1 loading up the second half would be my guess* 5-1: Another stage <b>...</b>

Twin Musical Tesla Coils playing Mario Bros
Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing Mario Bros theme song at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon sponsored by DC Cox (Resonance Research Corp) in Baraboo WI. The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Video was captured by Terry Blake. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB If you look at another You Tube video which is from a different angle, you can hear the echo off the building and get a better idea of how loud it is. www.youtube.com
