MONTREAL, Aug. 20, 2011 -- Quebec's Alex Tagliani, who finished second in this afternoon's NASCAR Nationwide Series NAPA 200 and fifth in this morning's NASCAR Canadian Tire Series NAPA Autoparts 100, takes Gazette reporter Dave Stubbs on two fast laps of Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in a Dodge Charger pace car, explaining the nuances of the track as we go. If only the video could translate the feelings in the body of hard acceleration and braking, and the feeling of rolling over the curbs to take the fastest line; you get a taste of the speed on the closeup of Tagliani, with the background flashing by. On Lap 4 of the four we ran (not in this video), Tagliani got the car up to a top speed of 180-plus km/h coming down the long straight that extends from not far out of the hairpin down to the tricky Turn 13/14 chicane at the top of the start/finish sprint. A Nationwide Series car will hit 250 km/h down the long straight, he said. Dave Stubbs video
