From Cairo to Alexandria, Egyptians have captured images of rampant police violence using handheld video cameras and mobile phones. Near Tahrir Square, a security officer was filmed being congratulated for shooting at the eyes of a protester. In Alexandria, green lasers alleged to be mounted on guns used by security forces are filmed hitting the leaves of overhead trees just before a protester is shot. Tense standoff in Cairo's Tahrir Square

Protesters have continued to gather in Cairo's Tahrir Square late into the night - with a message of defiance for Eygpt's military rulers. The square, which has been the scene of street battles between riot police and activists demanding an end to Egypt's military leadership, was relatively calm on Sunday night after protesters regained control of the area and began calling for reinforcements. Al Jazeera's Tarek Bazley reports on the day's events.

Hisham Kamal, a volunteer doctor in a field hospital in Cairo's Tahrir Square, has been working since Saturday, when riot police first cracked down on a small crowd that had camped overnight. Violence flares near Tahrir after tentative ceasfire

There has been little respite in the streets around Tahrir Square since violence began on Saturday. Central Security Force riot police continue to fight running battles with groups of young men on the front lines, firing tear gas and cartridge rounds against the protesters' rocks and petrol bombs. A brief cease fire brokered by religious scholars from al-Azhar University brought a short lull to the fighting on Wednesday afternoon, and army soldiers moved in to separate the two sides, backed by armoured personnel carriers. But the ceasefire was shattered when riot police fired a barrage of tear gas over the soldiers' heads, throwing Mohamed Mahmoud Street - the focal point of the fighting - into chaos. Al Jazeera's Sherine Tadros reports from Cairo.

Egypt's potential PM falls flat in Tahrir Square

When news hit Tahrir Square that the military was considering choosing Kamal al-Ganzouri, a former prime minister, to fill the role again, chants of "we don't want him, we don't want him" immediately rang out. Protesters said they don't want to see another official from the old regime in power, and they lamented the lack of youth representation. With another mass protest scheduled for Friday, it appears Tahrir Square still maintains the momentum, even as the military has repeatedly vowed to hold secure elections on Monday. Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal reports from Cairo.

Tens of thousands return to Tahrir for "Friday of One Demand"

Tens of thousands of protesters massed in central Cairo's Tahrir Square on Friday for one of the biggest demonstrations since the January uprising that brought down President Hosni Mubarak. The protest sprang from the proposal of a "supraconstitutional principles" document proposed by the interim government, which answers to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) that took power after Mubarak. The SCAF supports the document, which attempts to enshrine the military's role as the protector of the constitution and shield its budget from scrutiny. Islamists such as the Salafi Nour Party and Muslim Brotherhood oppose the document, in large part because they believe it would push Egypt toward becoming a more secular state. Their organisational acumen brought out the crowds on Friday, but the demonstration represented a broad swath of parties and movements. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from Cairo.
