Following the success of Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, and Fedde Le Grand, Nick Van de Wall aka Afrojack is the latest DJ, producer, and remixer to break through from the burgeoning Dutch dance music scene. Born in Spijkenisse in 1988, he began playing the piano at age five, but after getting his hands on a copy of music sequencing program Fruity Loops, he started to play around with samples and create his own songs. After discovering the Rotterdam club scene, he began performing short DJ sets before traveling to Crete to hone his craft, playing at various clubs over a five-month period. Returning to his native Holland, he signed to the independent Digidance label and released his debut single, "Afrojack In Your Face," before forming his own record company, Wall Recordings, scoring club hits with "Math" and "Do My Dance." Following performances at dance festivals Tomorrowland and Sensation, and a collaboration on David Guetta's One Love album, ("Toyfriend"), he was invited to remix the likes of Madonna's "Revolver" and Lady Gaga's "Alejandro." This was one of my little projects that I worked on about a week ago. I got really bored, and I wanted to transcribe some techno songs... and this was the first thing that crossed my mind. Transcribing it wasn't that bad (except for the really streamy fast parts), but attempting to play it on piano was a different story. Let's just say that fast techno songs like this weren't meant to be played on the piano. -__-; Dimrain47 fans should know this song; it is one of his most popular songs that he made. For those that have never heard of Dimrain47 but are familiar with this song, it's because this song is used for a popular flash game called "Particles". ______ EDIT: Wow, this video helped me realized that my piano is out of tune. Hmm. ______ EDIT #2: My most favorite comment of this video. From Dimrain47 himself: I must say, you ma'am, are a prodigy of music. I never thought in my days of making VG techno that anyone would actually transcribe this into a piano arrangement. VERY well done. You make it sound more beautiful than I could have ever imagined it to be. If I had a million thumbs they would all be up through the clouds, and into the Twilight. I am the composer of this music cue and this version was made from the original master recording. So for you Mass Effect 2 Fans here is perhaps one of the oddest "making of stories" you will hear. This track "Lo Fi Epic" was actually composed for the EA Sports Arena Football game in February of 2006 but never saw the light of day, hitting the cutting room floor after a producer nixed it for being "Too Techno" . The track went into the music archives and lived on the main server network for years. Fast forward to 2010 when I was sitting down with my new copy of Mass Effect 2. I am a huge Mass Effect fan, I had played through version 1 many times. So one can only imagine my reaction when I walked into the lower level of "Club Afterlife" and heard this track... At first I said "hummm that sounds very familiar" then it hit me "Holy crap I wrote that!". Sadly I was not credited in the game for this piece of music but neither was: Saki Kaskas - Callista - Upper Club Afterlife (Originally used in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit) John Morgan - Happiness - Dark Star Lounge Comaduster - To Hide To Seek - Eternity Bar This story got even crazier when I Googled the name of the ME2 planet this music was found on, there was a user on You Tube that had extracted the file from the PC version of the game and identified me as the composer; his video had over 100000 views with many comments about who wrote it and where they could find it. Purely fan made. I'll try and keep this simple. Software: Ableton Live 8, Reason 4, Wavelab 5, Izotope's Ozone 4. Vocals are from "Serah's Theme" and the orchestrated parts are from "Fabula Nova Crystallis". Both can be found on the FFXIII OST. Other songs used were "The Promise" and "No Way to Live". Other then a sound pack i bought for kicks and hi hats, all sounds can either be found or created in Reason. May not be perfect and that's ok. Its all about the feeling. But i think i did a pretty good job. Plus my laptop is old and was struggling at a lot of parts of the song. Not enough CPU and memory. I would have loved to push the limits and use more effects.
