The rare 1973 telecast of the 1970 Charles Strouse musical Applause, starring the incredible Lauren Bacall. Though the show - an adaptation of the Bette Davis movie All About Eve - is mostly forgotten now, it actually won the Tony for Best Musical, and Bacall won for Best Actress. The quality is poor, yes, but I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. It's pure fun and seems like the epitome of that 70s style. [From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - First telecast on "Caesar's Hour" on October 10, 1955 over NBC, this kinescoped sketch is a take-off on the Italian opera "Pagliacci" by Ruggero Leoncavallo. Sid plays the role of "Gallipacci" ("Canio" in the real opera) an actor in a traveling Italian comedia dell'arte troupe during the late 19th century. His wife "Rosa" ("Nedda" in tha actual opera), who is played by singer and comedienne Nanette Fabray, falls in love with fellow actor "Emilio" (the opera's "Silvio" character), performed by Carl Reiner, and they make plans to elope. Sid sings a rendition of songs in a jibberish Italian dialect which he picked up in his youth from waiting tables at his father's 24-hour blue-collar diner in Yonkers, New York. Straying off of the real opera's musical score just a bit, we hear hilariously bastardized renditions of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", Cole Porter's "Begin The Beguine", and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" among others. Howie Morris (Ernest T. Bass from "The Andy Griffith Show") is "Vesuvio" (whose real opera character is "Tonio") and he performs a parody song and dance rountine to the tune "Fine and Dandy". In one of the most famous "saves" in the history of live television, Sid was supposed to paint a teardrop on his cheek when the mascara pencil broke at the beginning of his nonsense rendition of "Just One of Those Things". Not breaking his stride, Sid proceeds to pick up one of Nanette's lip brushes and paints an <b>...</b>

Captured from a telecast by the TV show "Texas Country Gospel" in Gainesville, Texas. Production quality is very poor, but videos of Marty are so scarce I was glad to get it. I increased gamma by 10 points to keep it from being quite so dark, but am not sure it was an improvement. Anyway, thanks to Mary Fay Jackson for sharing a video I would otherwise not have at all. I love and admire the stand Marty has taken for Jesus Christ. In his introduction of this song he explained that it speaks of the anticipation of someday being physically with our Lord and Savior.

Let me state from the outset that I fully agree that there is an urgent need for a higher standard and quality of parliamentary debate by MPs, which is why I had been consistently and persistently calling for parliamentary reform and modernization to upgrade parliamentary standards and performance. There is, however, an equally urgent need to raise the standard and quality of media reporting and commentary about parliamentary proceedings as well national affairs, which is highlighted by the NST parliamentary reporting and commentary alleging that I had led, with the support from BN members, in an onslaught on the NST for Zainul Arrifin's column "Our MPs are not ready for prime-time TV".
