DIY Solar hot water heater in extreme temperatures is still pumping 180 deg. under 27 deg. and this morning it was -5 and didn't freeze even with out antifreeze. Tubes are ice cold and inside tube hot as hell. I don't use it that much but if I did it would run between 90 - 120 deg in the winter. This past summer I was not using it and it was making steam at 225 deg. yes, that's wright, steam! AMAZING!!

LTD engine nr 7 The working of the Stirling LTD (Low Temperature Difference) Ringbom engine. The engine consists of two big aluminum plates for good thermal conductivity, combined with a cylinder of synthetic material (bad conductivity is necessary to keep the difference in temperatures as high as possible), a displacer made of polystyrene foam and, of course, a connection between the U tube and the displacer. The large upper aluminum plate is used as a heat plate and the lower plate as a cooling plate. The engine consists of a U tube with a water column which takes over the function of the power cylinder and the power piston of a normal Stirling engine. The heat of a 20 W halogen lamp above the heat plate expands the air in the displacer cylinder (closed system) and the water column in the left U tube will rise. If the pressure is high enough a push against the U tube will activate the Stirling process. By the oscillation in the U tube the displacer will move. If everything is in balance the displacer will shift 90º compared with the water column. Because the water column oscillates, the engine will oscillate with a fixed frequency as the Ringbom engine has been hung up like the gimbal ring of a compass. (a gimbal ring is a contrivance, usually of rings & pivots, for keeping articles, eg a compass, horizontal). The function of the fly-wheel of a normal Stirling engine is partly taken over by the oscillation of the Ringbom engine. The engine starts working at a difference <b>...</b>

Absolute zero is the theoretical temperature at which entropy would reach its minimum value. The laws of thermodynamics state that absolute zero cannot be reached, because this would require a thermodynamic system to be fully removed from the rest of the universe. A system at absolute zero would still possess quantum mechanical zero-point energy. While molecular motion would not cease entirely at absolute zero, the system would not have enough energy for transference to other systems. It is therefore correct to say that molecular kinetic energy is minimal at absolute zero. By international agreement, absolute zero is defined as 0K on the Kelvin scale and as −273.16°C on the Celsius scale. The coldest temperatures measured in the last three years on the mountain allowed the summit crew to have a little fun. After some trial and error, a solution of dish soap, sugar, and water was found to create bubbles that would freeze before hitting the ground. With air temperatures outside around 33 below zero, and winds at nearly hurricane force, the "experiment" was attempted in several different sheltered locations at the Sherman Adams State Park Building where temperatures were a few degrees warmer. One of the locations was warm enough that one could actually see the bubbles crystallizing, while the second location was several degrees colder, and the bubbles froze almost immediately.Mount Washington Observatory is a nonprofit, membership-supported research and educational institution with a mission to advance understanding of the natural systems that create Earth's weather and climate. In this chapter of our S71 Olds build, we are completing the install of our Bullseye Power 75 mm turbo, our fabricated turbo piping, Bell intercooler , and the Be Cool Radiator . All of the exhaust tubing and turbine housing parts were coated by Extreme Powder Coating using their 2200° high temperature black ceramic coating to keep them looking new. The charge air tubing was painted with Eastwood's high temperature Nano Ceramic engine paint, which is a very durable paint suitable for parts reaching regular engine temperatures. The be cool radiator module encompasses a pair of Spal electric fans, and Be Cool guarantees it to cool engines up to 1000 HP. We installed a Turbo Smart Reaceport blow-off valve inline with the air intake to help keep the turbo spooled-up during shifts. To help reduce underhood air temperatures and to make our turbo system more efficient, we installed a DEI Titanium Turbo Shield , which is made from lava rock strands that can withstand temperatures over 1800°. We also wrapped our turbo exhaust with DEI Titanium Exhaust Wrap to keep the hot exhaust gas in the tubing and underhood temperatures down. AK & N air filter and various silicone connectors from IntakeHoses.com completed the intake tubing. In the coming chapters, we will complete the ISIS Intelligent Multiplex wiring system install and FAST Fuel Injection installs before firing up the S71 Olds!

In January this year, Wim Hof ran a half Marathon (21 km) above the polar circle in Finland. He wore only a pair of shorts and no shoes. The ground (snow) temperature was 35 below. In a few months time, he'll try something similar on Everest's north side. The expedition, led by Dutch Werner de Jong, will try to set a new world record as Wim attempts to climb parts of Everest wearing only shorts. This is not your regular stunt. Wim already has 9 world records, and has trained hard for many years to withstand cold, much like some monks do in Tibet. Wim can actually regulate his core heat to control the temperature of his skin. Something of a medical enigma, Wim is able to withstand cold that could kill or seriously injure other people. On Everest, Wim will also put to use his free style climbing skills - which he once demonstrated hanging between 2 hot air balloons by his middle finger at an altitude of 1500 meters. Once back inside the basket, Wim finished by climbing to the top of the balloon. One of Wim's world record attempts took him to the North Pole, where he held his breath for about 6 minutes and 20 seconds below the ice.
