Katherine Terrell in the Scottish Opera production of Marc Blitzstein's "Regina", singing the title role's signature song "The Best Thing of All", with a bit of the surrounding scene to boot; from the broadcast of a live performance. Much more dramatically and vocally effective in the role than the singer who replaced her for the studio recording with most of the same cast and conductor, the entire broadcast of it is a much livelier performance and has several deft touches that somehow were lost or edited in the studio, and a real pity as this recording makes the best case for the work by far. If you act the scenes as they do, it's not melodrama, it's drama. I'm posting this on the recommendation it be issued or you find a copy. Slight hiss and minor glitches remastered by Tormented Artist Ink Studios (me). A reviewer when "Regina" first opened in 1948 wrote that from then on Lillian Hellman would be chiefly remembered as the librettist for "Regina", and had it been consistently produced like this, she might be (she wasn't amused, it caused a huge breach in their friendship).
