Wine Library TV's Gary Vaynerchuk gives his no-holds-barred take on how modern businesses must adapt to thrive in a social media-driven culture. ----- On November 5, L2 and NYU Stern hosted its second-annual Innovation Forum at The Morgan Library in New York City. The full-day event addressed innovation in digital marketing and implications for prestige brands. L2 Forums are the largest gatherings of prestige professionals in North America. Forums draw C-level executives and top marketing and digital talent from prestige brands; leading agencies, media, and technology firms; and innovators and academics. In addition, 25 percent of seats are reserved for students from the nation's top business and arts graduate programs. Gary Vaynerchuk was born in Babruysk, USSR (today Belarus) on November 14, 1975 and emigrated to the US in 1978. He graduated from Mount Ida College in Newton, MA. From a platform as co-owner and Director of Operations of Wine Library, a wine retail shop in Springfield, New Jersey, Vaynerchuk gained fame as the host of Wine Library TV, a daily internet webcast on the subject of wine. Called the "king of social media", he is one of the first Facebook users to max out his friend limit, with over 17000 pending friend requests. He is in the top 100 people followed on Twitter and was the keynote speaker at events like the 2009 South by Southwest Interactive conference and the New Media and Web 2.0 expos.

The Thank You Economy tackles the ROI of social media and the humanization of business as I see it. I'll be doing an ENORMOUS amount of Q&A. I'm looking to bring it to the masses and allow the engagement of a Q&A session while talking at the top level about the pulse of social and web community as we see it today. New York Times bestselling author Gary Vaynerchuk is the star of WineLibraryTV.com, a video blog launched from his platform as Director of Operations of national industry retail giant Wine Library. Considered the rock star of wine, Gary's informed yet informal approach to wine appreciation has revolutionized the industry by demystifying wine for a new generation and empowering wine drinkers to trust their own palates. Gary leveraged social media tools to build the brand, and Wine Library TV attracted over 90000 viewers daily, becoming the most downloaded podcast on iTunes in the Food category. Gary has appeared on numerous national television programs as a wine and marketing expert, including Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Today Show, The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Dr. Oz Show, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, CNN's Your $$$$, and CNBC's Power Lunch. In 2009, Gary was recognized as Innovator of the Year by Wine Enthusiast and featured in Decanter magazine's "Power List" of the 50 most influential people in wine. Additionally, AskMen.com listed Gary among the 49 Most Influential Men of 2009.

This week I am interrupting our regularly scheduled episode of The Queue for a special guest keynote. Gary Vaynerchuk has a new book out this week called The Thank You Economy. I had a chance to attend the RE/MAX Convention in Las Vegas (huge credit to RE/MAX for having a truly relevant speaker) on the day of the book release and heard Gary speak for the first time live and in person. As expected he was inspiring. What I really loved was that because he was addressing a room full of Realtors, many of the analogies and advice he shared was specific to our industry. The normal format of The Queue is to provide you with practical take aways that will help your business improve by leveraging technology and social media. There is nothing I can do this week that would more quickly accomplish that than by suggesting that you BUY THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!

In this video I review Gary Vaynerchuk's new book The Thank You Economy and you may be a bit surprised to hear what I have to say about it. Find it here: www.paulymath.com Blog: www.paulymath.com Summary: I'll start by saying that I absolutely love Gary Vaynerchuk's passion and I've been a big fan of his for years, recommending his book "Crush It!" to everyone I know. When I heard that Gary's coming out with a new book I was super excited and ordered it right away. Upon reading the book though I have to say that I'm a little bit disappointed. It didn't have nearly the same impact on me as Crush It! did. I think the reason for this is twofold: (1) I may not be Gary's target for this book. It seems like the book is targeting the larger company CEO types who don't believe in social media - and the purpose of this book seems to be to "prove" to these large corp. CEO types that they should pay attention to social media. As a solopreneur I couldn't find myself relating to the content in this book very much. I would have loved to just skip the proof part and get to the nitty gritty of how to best engage with social media etc. (2) Secondly, in this book it felt as if Gary's energy was tired. It's as if he's just gotten back from a long battle of trying to convince the whole world to pay attention to Facebook and Twitter and social media platforms. I would love to read a book by Gary which targets only those who already believe 100% that social media is the way to go, but who are ...
