The Unthanks : Starless

"They are like the morning dew that hasn't steamed off yet, they are fresh and new and I really don't think they know how good they are" ~Robert Wyatt British folk group the Unthanks took shape in 2004 under a different name, Rachel Unthank & the Winterset. Formed by sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank, the Winterset released two albums and earned a loyal following in the UK before switching monikers in 2009. With a slightly different lineup in place -- one that now featured Rachel's husband, pianist Adrian McNally, as well as fiddler Niopha Keegan and guitarist Chris Price -- the Unthanks released their debut album, Here's the Tender Coming, that same year. Here's the Tender Coming made a big splash in Europe, where it was named one of 2009's best releases by Mojo, The Guardian, and Uncut. After touring heavily in support of the album, the Unthanks returned to Rachel and Adrian McNally's Northumberland home to record another batch of songs. The result, Last, was released in spring 2011. (Andrew Leahey, All Music). "Starless" is from The Unthanks new 2011 album, "Last". The Unthanks Official Website: www.the-unthanks.com

Taken from the BBC Four Christmas Session (www.bbc.co.uk I think this is simply stunning and just had to share it. Harmonies between siblings are some of the most beautiful and Rachel and Becky are no exception. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

King of Rome. The Unthanks and The Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band

(Audio only) Song written by Dave Sudbury. This is just a taster of a brilliant collaboration between these two bands. Now the UK tour has ended I hope they decide to record the amazing music we heard at Leeds Town Hall. We enjoyed it so much we did a round trip of 250 miles to see the same concert again in Northampton. If anyone connected with the band has any objection to this music being on my channel please let me know and I will remove it immediately.
The Unthanks - Last (Official video by Nick Murray Willis)

This is the official video for the title track of The Unthanks album 'Last'. On and on and on we go But back and back and back we go The wisdom thrown out long ago The great unlearning has begun And we are lost Time will pass and soon we'll know What sons and daughters have to show For all our speed and all our waste Do you have a nasty taste The frightened people still believe In gods and heroes and pure blood The blood still flows and mums still loose Their sons and daughters in the field The fields will soon be under seas Continue doing as you please But we won't last We won't last We won't last The past is gone we don't deny Cold and cruel without a lie But failure is a victory If from it we all get to see That we are lost, we won't last Remember the past and we might last Remember the past and we might last Man should be the sum of his story
