Questions for Theists

The questions are directed primarily to the followers of the God of Abraham 1. Would you be able to enjoy Heaven knowing that people you love are tormented in Hell ? 2. . How come so many times the all-knowing God doesnt seem to have a clue whats gonna happen ? 3. How do you justify God punishing Adam and Eve for something the did before having any knowledge about good and evil ? 4. What will happen in the Afterlife to the people who never heard about your religion ? 5. How do you justify an infinite punishment for a finite crime ? Music by Kevin MacLeod at incompetech.com

Challenge to Theists

A short (3 min) version of this challenge is at : www.youtube.com Re Ockham's Razor; A pretty quick look through the wikipedia page for Ockham's razor will explain why it is not considered "proof". I can't word it any better than that page, so I'll direct you to it for your consideration before you submit it as a response. :) en.wikipedia.org Thanks. And I do rather regret not qualifying my "thick-headed" comment a little better. I am not saying that all theists are thick-heads who deserve to be insulted. I have never said that. The thick heads I'm talking about in this video are the ones who simply refuse to accept the very reasonable analogy begun by Bertrand Russell. I'll qualify it even further - the ones who not only refuse to accept it but then act all high and mighty when atheists (suprise surprise) cannot disprove the existence of a god, are not only thick-headed but completely shit-brained. Glad I cleared that up. Oh - and by the way, the atheists who DO insult every theist as being fucked up dim-witted retarded numb-skulls are projecting, and ought to hold a mirror up to themselves. I have no support for their comments and hate to see them being made on my videos. NSC

Peace Is Non Theistic - Statistical Data

BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE EPOCH OF REASON! I hear time and time again the incredible statements being made by the religiously minded whom make comparisons between themselves, other religious groups and also even to the non-religious. I hear often Muslims claiming their religion to be one of peace, of knowledge of wisdom and of respect (laughs), and much of the same spewed from the pipes of the Christian, Jewish and Hindu drones. Though, its interesting to note that I have yet to see any statistical data nor any evidence to support such claims; mainly due to the fact that there is none. With this video, I seek to present factual statistical data that expresses that such claims are not only false, but like most religious speech, are blatant falsities that exist as a propaganda force. Religion now like always maintains a clear and distinct correlation with conflict, not peace! The Vision of Humanity Global Peace Index survey accounts for internal and external conflicts and the subsequent losses incurred, Including that of potential terrorist acts. Relationships with neighbouring countries and overall political stability. Perceptions of criminality in society, violent and non violent crime rates and intentional homicidal displacement ratios to the overall population. A Letter To A Theist

I think you misunderstand the point I was getting at. There is no reason for a lack of reason, the lack of reason IS the reason. Let me try and explain it a different way. I was born without any knowledge of the world. I had no knowledge of any sort of deity. Now, growing up things get told to you that you accept or reject. I accept things I am given good reason to suppose are true, and reject things I am not given good reason to suppose are true. The burden of proof is on the one introducing the claim ie the one claiming that there is a god. I am yet to come across a convincing reason to believe in a deity of any kind. It's quite simple. You are the one making the claim. I am simply saying that you haven't convinced me. Seeing as you are claiming to hold the absolute objective truth, the single most important piece of knowledge that one can ever obtain, I am going to give you the greatest amount of scepticism that I possibly can. Especially seeing as many other people are offering the same claim, and choosing one when none are right is equally as deleterious, I want to make sure that I've got it right. In that light, not being sceptical would be quite frankly equivalent to insulting you as it shows no respect for the severity of your claim. Now, I do have a few philosophical reasons for not believing in a deity, but as we all know, philosophy is just sophistry and for every argument there is a rebuttal and a counter-rebuttal etc etc. I dont give too much credit to ...

Atheist vs Muslim Debate - Secularism vs Political Theism (Part 1)

Debate: "Should God be de-radicalised? - Religion and state in the modern world" Date: 29 September 2009 Venue: Central London Speakers: Bob Churchill of the British Humanist Society (www.humanism.org.uk ), and Abdullah al Andalusi of the Muslim Debate Initiative (www.thedebateinitiative.com ). In the modern world, religion is seen as a relic of the past, as being unable to deal with contemporary problems, and at worst, being the cause of today's afflictions and problems. But is this accurate? Is religion the cause of modern day wars, social breakdown and global warming? Isn't it rather the mass industry of materialistically-focused societies producing, and polluting, in mass quantities without regard to the ethical limits we find common in religion? Is public morality in decay due to the secularisation of society? Are wars about Oil and nationalism, rather than religion?but Lastly, can religion provide answers which are fundamentally lacking in Secularism? Both sides of the debate, both ideological Secular Atheist and ideological Theist, debate the role religion should play in the 21st century in this intellectually stimulating discussion- Should God be de-radicalised? Refuting Theist Arguments - Why Religion is Delusional

Refuting Theist Arguments -- Why Religion is Inherently Delusional Many theists get upset when I say that religion is a system of delusions, or when I say that there is a taboo against criticizing mass delusions that are in the form of religion. In this video I will explain why religions (ie systems that hold a belief in one or more supernatural forces) are inherently delusional. Let us start out by examining a set of criteria for determining if a belief is delusional. Karl Jaspers, a German psychiatrist who had a strong influence on modern psychiatry, defined a delusion by three criteria: -1) Certainty (held with absolute conviction) -2) Incorrigible (not changeable by compelling counter-argument or proof to the contrary) -3) Impossibility or falsity of context (implausible, bizarre, or patently untrue) Let's see if religion meets the criteria: -1) Religious individuals do hold their beliefs with absolute certainty. For example: When asked what would make them become an atheist, many Christians say "nothing, because I have found god." -2) There are compelling counter-arguments against religious belief (lack of proof, 'celestial teapot', etc.), and there is circumstantial evidence that would suggest that all religions were constructed by people. -3) The belief in an omnipotent deity, or ANY supernatural force, is implausible (there is ZERO evidence to even suggest that supernatural forces exist), and bizarre (yet again, purely magical forces are quite a bizarre notion ...

Is Theism Harmful? Or Is Religion The Problem? - Atheist Experience 536

Brett calls in with a few good topics. One of which sparks an argument between Tracie and Russell. Is a belief in god harmful? Or is it the religion that usually comes with the belief? This is an interesting discussion. I tend to believe it is the religion. I know a lot of theists who are not very religious. They are very tolerant, and tend to have a more secular view of the world. It is the religious people that tend to be bigots and cause the most harm. The 12 Step Program for Theists

1. We admitted we were victims of religious dogma--- that our lives had become irrational. 2. Came to realize that a power within ourselves could restore us to reason and rationality. 3. Made a decision to open our minds and thoroughly examine our beliefs. 4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. 5. Admitted to ourselves and our families that we have been living a lie. 6. Were entirely ready to take credit for what we made happen, good or bad. 7. Humbly asked an Atheist how to fearlessly, morally and happily, live without the comfort and or fear of our notion of God. 8. Made a list of all persons we love and love them more. 9. Made a concerted effort to understand ourselves and the world around us. 10. Continued to take personal responsibility for what we and others make happen, good or bad. 11. Sought through science and history our understanding of what we know to be true. 12. Having had an awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to Theists to help relieve them of this powerful delusion forced upon them when they were at their most vulnerable. I will find serenity in accepting that prayer cannot change anything. I will find courage to live my one and only life free of delusion. I will find wisdom in understanding myself and the world around me. Love is your greatest power, Use it. AntEyeTheist The origial "Twelve Steps" 1. Refuting Theist Arguments - Why Atheists Care About Religion

Refuting Theist Arguments -- Why Atheists Care About Religion I am often asked by theists: "If you don't believe in any gods or supernatural forces, then why do you care about religion?" Sometimes it seems like they are just tired of debating and want to find a polite way to tell me to get lost. Sometimes they seem genuinely perplexed. I cannot speak for all atheists, but I can explain why I care about religion. In this video I will give a few of the reasons why I, as an atheist, care about religion. I will not present all of the reasons why I care, due to time constraints, but here are some of the major reasons. Note: I will only provide one or two examples for each reason that I present. I could provide a plethora of examples for each point, but, yet again, time constraints apply. It is also important to note that not all of these reasons will apply to all religions. Reason 1: --Religions attempt to restrict the free will, and freedoms, of other individuals, even when those individuals are not harming anyone else or society. Example: Muslims try to silence anyone who speaks badly of Mohammed, Allah, the Qur'an, or Islam in general. Even 'moderate' Muslims will often try to force unbelievers to 'respect their religion' while they show no respect for anyone who is not a Muslim. Reason 2: --Religion promotes discrimination (religious discrimination, sexism, etc.) Example 1: Fundamentalist Christians are against homosexuality because their 'holy book' tells them that their ...

I can't speak for all atheists, nor do I believe that all Christians hold these myths, but I do my best to explain and debunk them from my own experience. 16 - We really want to know Jesus and believe in God 15 - We don't ever experience feelings of awe and wonder from looking at the physical world 14 - We see our criticisms of the Bible as criticisms of God 13 - Our objection to religious proselytizing comes from a fear that you will corrupt our beliefs or make us face our doubts 12 - We reject each and every moral teaching in the Bible 11 - We argue in order to get you to agree with us or to jusify our beliefs 10 - Our beliefs are inherently pragmatic or emotional, and that telling us about the practical or emotional benefits of belief will change our minds 9 - What you call logic is the same thing we refer to as logic 8 - We are monolithic in our philsophical and political beliefs 7 - We view our beliefs the same way your view your beliefs 6 - We are miserable, afraid, and unhappy 5 - We have the same spiritual experiences you have, but deny or suppress them 4 - We became atheists because of some traumatic experience that turned us away from God 3 - We hate God and fear his judgement 2 - We believe that human, animal, and plant life as we know it today came about through random chance 1 - We hate Christians

Atheist Debates God (Debunking 7 Most Common Theist Arguments)

Excerpts from Dan Barker's rebuttal portion of a debate with Adam Deen (Muslim Apologetic). In his rebuttal Dan answers and debunks the most common argument made by theists that allegedly support the existence of a god. Barker also gives a little bit of focus on Islam and the Quran since the debate was in front of a Muslim audience but I left it out to make it a little more general. The arguments debunked are: The Kalam and Cosmological arguments (infinity and primal cause) The fine-tuned universe (constants in the universe are exactly tuned for life to exist) Something cannot come out of nothing Argument from Consciousness Personal identity and free-will Objective morality Dan Barker, who is sometime referred to as "USA's leading atheist" is the author of 'Godless' and an international public speaker and debater in topics surrounding atheism and religion. Theistic morality is arbitrary, or it doesn't need God

Theists: (especially those of you who are charmed by the idea of an absolute moral standard) Don't underestimate the Euthyphro dilemma! The points made in this vid echo the observations in this article: www.infidels.org (thanks to FJBonito for the link) --- Euthyphro's dilemma can be expressed with the following question: "Is what is moral commanded by God because it's moral, or is it moral because it's commanded by God?" It's a dilemma for the theist because which ever option turns out to be correct, the result seems unsatisfactory. If what is moral is commanded by God because it's moral, then it means that there is an absolute standard of morality that exists independently of God. And that god is not necessary as a source of morality. On the other hand if things are moral simply because they are commanded by god, then theistic morality has a completely arbitrary foundation. If he had happened to command that killing your mother was good, it would be good in an absolute sense to kill your mother. The theist often tries to avoid the dilemma by claiming that God doesn't simply make random commandments, but that morality and goodness are a part of God's nature and his commandments are a reflection of that nature. But the theist is mistaken in thinking that he's avoided the dilemma by locating 'goodness' in gods nature instead of in his commandments. Euthyphro's question, with a slight modification can be applied again: "Is what is moral part of God's nature because it's ...

Refuting Theist Arguments - Negative Proof

Many theists will often fall back on a few common arguments when they cannot refute an atheist's points and counter-points. This video is about one argument that theists often fall back on: The 'You can't prove that God doesn't exist, so god exists' argument. The problem with this argument is that it is a negative proof fallacy. The fallacy of appealing to lack of proof of the negative follows the following basic form: X is true, because there is no proof that X is false. Examples of arguments that are based on this fallacy: -Superman exists because you can't prove that he doesn't. -Pink elephants exist because you can't prove that they don't. -Sentient hot dogs exist, because you can't prove that they do not. From these basic counter-examples we can clearly see why appealing to lack of proof of the negative is a logical fallacy. This also brings up another extremely important point: the burden of proof. It is important to remember that the burden of proof rests with the individual who makes the claim. EX. If I claim that pink elephants exist, then I am the one who has to prove that they exist. The burden of proof is not on everyone else to disprove my claim; the burden is on he who makes the claim (me). The same applies to God (or any other claim). If someone asserts or claims that their God is real, then it is up to them to provide proof. Other individuals do not have to disprove such a claim; the person who makes the claim has to prove it. Belief, Choice, Atheism, Theism, and Agnosticism: a Conversation

Snippets from a conversation with moonlightbateman (plus commentary by me) about Christianity, atheism, belief, and whether or not we have a choice about what we believe. I talk about my notions on religious topics and the importance of being respectful in discussion and debate, particularly when it comes to personal beliefs. In case you didn't figure this out from the video, just to be clear, I consider myself an agnostic atheist.

The thing that made the things for which there is no known maker.

Every painting needs to have had a painter, and every building needs to have had a builder. Every thing for which there is no known maker, needs to have been made by something. Maybe, thousands of years ago, a conversation like this took place... and brought theism into the world. I wonder if the dogmatism came along as quickly as in THIS example? This is definitely one for the atheists and anti-theists. I don't expect religious folk to really get this one. I probably won't do much debating on this, I get sick enough of explaining myself on what I think are EASY satires to understand. HUGE thanks to youtube user BigAtomicBird for the Portuguese (and English) subtitles. A huge job done entirely voluntarily! I say on my channel page that I don't like or attempt to argue against the existence of a God. I think it's a difficult thing to argue, and there are far better minds than mine at work on that anyway. This video is probably the closest I'll ever come to arguing against there being a God, and in fact, I'm actually arguing against the terrible kind of theistic thinking that promotes ignorance and stultifies inquiry into the natural world, the kind of thinking that says "If we don't know the answer to the question, then that OBVIOUSLY means that GODdidit!, end of story." These characters (some viewers have suggested naming them Ray and Kirk!) don't know the reason that the seasons change. Goddidit!
