I used jellyfish as the control center, since jellyfish are made up of 98% water, and I thought that the will of the water would be reflected in the movement of the jellyfish, if only a little. If we were able to create a space controlled by jellyfish, wouldnﾕt it be the ultimate place of relaxation? I got the inspiration for this system from the Theremin which is the oldest electronic music instrument in the world. Absolutely wicked live performance by the Juan MacLean back in 2005, when the band was in its first incarnation; a 3-man combo. Juan MacLean center stage, oddly enough, playing Korg's small, lightweight virtual analogue synth, the microKorg, and cowbells and drumstick in back pocket - ready for action. oh yeah, sporting a pair of sick aviators; Eric Broucek manning up on the legendary Roland SH-101 Keytar synthesizer and a MOOG Theramin (has since left DFA and the Juan MacLean, and started his own production company) also assisting with hand claps and vocals ; and the best drummer I've ever seen, the great and sadly late Jerry Fuchs (also drummer for Maserati, Turing Machine, LCD Soundsystem, and !!!) without question was the most highly sought-after drummer on the scene, seen in this video decimating his kit with Simmons drum brain and mesmerizing an unsuspecting Southern California crowd.
