Inspirational video - Turning disappointment into joy: From Service Dog to SURFice Dog

Join Ricochet on Facebook! www.facebook.com - Kleenex alert! Each person who watches this inspirational video finds an individual message that touches them on many levels, & brings them to tears. It's about acceptance, adjusting expectations, & focusing on the "can do's" in life which allows for a celebration of amazing outcomes. Ricochet is an internationally renowned champion surf dog at the center of media attention, who has become an inspirational phenomenon, motivational role model, internet sensation, fundraising marvel, goodwill ambassador, and muse to millions! This video depicts her journey from birth to 15 months of age, as she goes through her service dog training, which is cut short due to her propensity to chase birds. Her role changed to SURFice dog & she started to fundraise for quadriplegic surfer, Patrick Ivison, who she met the night before this video was filmed. The intention was for the two of them to surf a wave together on their own surfboards. At one point, when they surfed into shore, Ricochet jumped off her board, and onto Patrick's. It was her decision to surf tandem with him! Once the video went viral, she turned it into a platform to help more people/animals & she's raised over $53000 in the last year. She promotes kindness, charity, philanthropy, and social responsibility, such as her video about anti-bullying "You're amazing just the way you are!" Tell Me a Story: Therapy Dogs Bring Smiles to Kids at Cincinnati Children's

The passageway through the central corridor at Cincinnati Children's is a hallway where, on any given day, someone is bound to be having a bad day. Tired-looking parents struggle with the stresses of having sick children. Families navigate with wheelchairs and strollers past doctors, nurses and staffers who head to appointments and hospital rooms. But something special happens when Abby enters the building. The mood lightens. People stop and smile. Conversations begin. Abby Golden Doodle, a therapy dog, looks like she's smiling back at everyone who smiles at her. In this "Tell Me a Story," Greg Park talks about his dog Abby.

(AP) — Tufts University is throwing stressed-out students a bone therapy dogs to play with during their final exams. Colleges have long extended library hours and offered extra counseling around test time. Now they're adopting quirky stress-fighting events for students, who face a tough job market in addition to finishing up the semester. From dog visits to free midnight massages to laser tag, students are getting help navigating those last days before turning in final papers and taking finals. "I hope these puppies make me happy and give me a nice break between studying ... just cut the studying a little bit," 19-year-old Tufts freshman Chloe Wong said Tuesday, petting an Australian shepherd brought in by her resident director. She called her first semester "challenging." She left her hometown of Manalapan, NJ; has spent weeks away from family, friends and her shih tzu; and was fearing she'd lose her cool with her first set of final exams. But on Tuesday, the community health major got to relax and play with a set of dogs that resident ...

A Service Dog Named Moses

carolinacanines.org This is quote from the tribute to Moses "For those of you who don't know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Moses. And I am very proud to say I was the Founding Pup of Carolina Canines for Service. I was born on October 15, 1996 and I came into Ricks life on December 1st of that year and actually at that very moment Carolina Canines went from a dream to reality. I know the elaborate temperament test that Rick does now, and let me tell you the night he picked me, there was no such test. I was one of 13 puppies, it was cold and rainy and Rick was literally knee deep in mud, so as he held up each of us up to the headlights of a Geo Tracker, he looked at me second, and then after looking at all the rest of the puppies, he chose me! Actually I chose him, he just didn't know it yet. I was the biggest and most wiggly in the litter. And so it began. It has been a tremendous ride, and I do mean ride. As a service dog in training, an actual service dog, a demonstration dog, a therapy dog and a Paws For Reading Dog, I have flown and driven from Washington State to Florida, from Salt Lake City to our marvelous capital of Washington DC Near as I can figure Rick and I have traveled well over a half a million miles together. I have met Senators, Congressmen, men and women of all ages, sizes, and shapes. We have been able to serve civilians and my beloved US Military. I've seen the organization grow from an idea and dream to an organization that has provided more ...

Ruby the Best Pitbull Service Dog

Pitbulls always seem to get a bad rap, which Ruby doesn't deserve. She shines a great light on her breed! Just a clarification on RUBY THE SERVICE AND THERAPY DOG. She is BOTH. In November 2005 she received her TDI therapy dog certification. As the medical needs of her owner changed, Ruby went back to school and was trained thru www.puppyloveinc.org (service dogs). In February of 2009, she then received her credentials as a SERVICE DOG with proper id. Hope this clears up any confusion. Sadly, Ruby is now fighting Cancer. So to clarify, Ruby is DEFINITELY a SERVICE dog and does go into stores, ect.

Rufus (an amazing pitbull) is now retiring after 5 1/2 years as a Certified Therapy Dog who has visited nursing homes, elementary school, and hospitals...I have to say a huge thank you to Maryellen (Rufus's mom) .I have so enjoyed doing this video. And Mr. Rufus...He is one incredible PITBULL!!! I just sat in awe as I went through his 800+ pictures and then had to make the awful decision on which pictures i was going to use in the video.. I WANTED TO USE THEM ALL but then it would have ended up being a 4 hour video and that's something i have not tackled....YET! :) I know alot of hearts are going to be missing all the comforting visits from Rufus..He has touched so many...From small children to the wonderful ladies and gentlemen at the hospitals and nursing homes.... He has devoted 5 1/2 years to giving hope, companionship and love to so so many people... Thank you Rufus and thank you Maryellen for raising such a wonderful guy.. RUFUS- YOU ROCK!!!!!! Pet Therapy in Hospitals

Everyone knows how beneficial pets can be in our lives. But now, recent scientific evidence has actually proven what pet owners already knew. Heart failure patients who spent 12 minutes with a dog or cat had lower stress hormone levels, lower blood pressure levels, and a general brighter outlook about their recovery. Therapy dogs, and cats, have now started their rounds, under "doctor's orders". Watch this video to learn more.

Delta Society Beyond Limits Awards - Monica Payson & Marley

MONICA PAYSON, Seattle, WA and her partner, 7-year-old Marley, a Bullmastiff, are one of five finalist teams for the Delta Society's 2007 Beyond Limits Award as Pet Partners Team of the Year. They visit in a number of challenging environments. With the trust and communication between Monica and the large, powerful Marley setting the tone, they began making a difference in the lives of abused and emotionally disturbed children aged 3-18. These children are often in residential treatment settings, and they are usually behaviorally and emotionally unpredictable, facing challenges such as ADD and ADHD as well. Monica and Marley help the children learn impulse control and respect for boundaries, as they provide a positive model of non-coercive interaction. They have had many major breakthroughs with previously unreachable youngsters. Three years ago, Monica and Marley were part of a pilot program in the King County Prosecutor's office to help interview child assault victims. The study led to the Prosecutor's office eventually adopting their own dog for that purpose. Two years later, Marley became the first dog in the Washington State Critical Incident Stress Management Network, and will be among the first responders to future disasters. To vote for any of the five finalists, log on to www.deltasociety.org before November 5. Videos of all five finalists (Sarah Allen, Maggie Crawford, Connie Gates, Monica Payson, Karla Rose) can be viewed on YouTube.

CONNIE GATES of Huntsville, AL and her partner, Katie, a 12-year-old Golden Retriever, are one of five finalist teams for the Delta Society's 2007 Beyond Limits Award as Pet Partners Team of the Year.
